Songs we can't listen to

Post by double dutchess »

A recent thread about "Veronica" got me thinking about certain songs that might not be terribly popular. And from that, I thought about the possibility that there might be songs that some of us can't stand to hear, for any reason.

I'm not sure exactly why, but I find "Tart" painful to listen to, although I think it's a very pretty song. And I'm not crazy about "Every Day I Write the Book"; it's kind of a cute song, but I don't think it's the best representation of Elvis' songwriting ability.

Anyone else?

Are we talking strictly E.C. songs here, or are we talking about ANY song we can't stand??

Hmmm. Well, I think we should limit it to EC songs, since this is the correct forum. Perhaps we can start a more general thread in the Annex.

I really love that attitude in Write the book...

or is it sequal?

I can't stand 'Daddy Can I Turn This?'. That song is just annoying.
It nearly took a mircacle to get you to stay
It only took my little finger to blow you away.

Most of the songs on Cruel World. Broken. Painted from Memory. For The Stars. Half of The Juliet Letters.

'Sequel', LTZ. i love those two songs. The recordings are open to criticism, but they're great songs, great tunes. Would love to hear the straightforward version of EIWTB he's been playing on this tour. The sstudio arrangement of it was the producers' idea, I believe. I also like the raucousness of Daddy Can I Turn This, and Tart is a recent highlight for me.

It's really cliched, but for me the only one is Broken. It should have been given to Enya and left there, full stop.

I *love* Tart and DCITT? Broken and Sulky Girl have me reaching for the skip button. There are others but I really can't remember them at the moment.

I Wanna Be Loved

I like the song, but I greatly dislike the recording. In concert, as he did it in 2002, it's a beautiful and highly emotional ballad.

good thread!

today i actually listened to Veronica and didn't lunge for the skip button. of course, i think the pretty full bottle of riesling that i had recently finished off helped.

i don't like 'The Loved Ones'. sounds trite to my ears.

but, even 'bad' elvis is better than alot of schlock on the radio. :)

I agree, but with the possible exception of "God Give Me Strength". When his voice rises during the chorus, it makes me cringe.

Lipstick Vogue may very well be my absolute favorite. My least favorite: selections from the Juliet letters.
