The 2005 Riverkeeper Benefit Dinner

Please join us as we honor Tom Freston, long-time friend of Riverkeeper and Co-President and Co-Chief Operating Officer of Viacom, for his outstanding dedication and contribution to environmental and social change. Riverkeeper's Annual Dinner, being held on Tuesday, May 17, 2005, has become one of New York's hippest and liveliest evenings. We promise fun, a great musical guest, and the opportunity to support Riverkeeper's critical work.

Obviously, no rich people post here. Too busy oppressing the proletariat.

One ticket costs more than my rent. I cant justify that, no matter how much I love Elvis. At least ... not yet.

( extract)

.............the Riverkeeper gala on Tuesday night.

Riverkeeper was created by ROBERT F. KENNEDY JR. to help keep the Hudson River clean. We were not allowed into the gala, so we cannot tell you what riverkeeping looks like up close, but it was a beautiful night and one could do worse than stand outside on a red carpet at the Chelsea Piers.

"Who doesn't want to talk to JON BON JOVI?" one publicist asked of the group of print reporters.

No hands were raised.

"O.K., so you all want to talk to him."

Two seconds passed. Another publicist appeared.

"He's not going to do any interviews."

O.K., one could do worse, but not much worse.

JOHN McENROE, CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER, CHRISTY TURLINGTON, ELVIS COSTELLO, DIANA KRALL, UMA THURMAN and LORNE MICHAELS all made their way down the carpet.

Mr. Costello held Ms. Krall's hand as he walked; with the other hand, he held up a copy of a new CD for the cameras.

New York, May 17 – With the Presleys pushing a documentary, a CD and a book on the king, we figured it was only a matter of time before an official Elvis sighting. And lo and behold, the name was on the Riverkeeper Gala invitation. On closer inspection we realized that Elvis Costello was the one singing for clean water. Elvis brought his wife Diana Krall, and another singer, Tony Bennett, was in the house. Uma Thurman, Cedric the Entertainer, Dana Reeve, Christy Turlington, Lorne Michaels, Jon Bon Jovi, Edgar Bronfman, and a few Kennedys all assembled at the Chelsea Piers, and Arianna Huffington even took time off from her celebrity blog to attend. The gala was perfectly timed to honor Viacom’s Tom Freston, who, as a TV executive, has nothing much to do during Upfronts week. This being an environmental benefit, we couldn’t help noticing that most of the boldfacers drove up in gas-guzzling SUVs.
