In case you are wondering...

What is an "Easter Egg"?

In the context of software (get that Cadbury Bunny out
of your head!), an Easter Egg is a hidden feature or
novelty that the programmers have put in their
software. In general, it is any hidden, entertaining
thing that a creator hides in their creation only for
their own personal reasons. This can be anything from
a hidden list of the developers, to hidden commands,
to jokes, to funny animations.

Play.com have it for only £13.99 sterling, including delivery. they also say it's a region free, NTSC disc, which I don't know whether to believe.

Tower are showing a release date of 17th January, and state the following on their site:
Note: This DVD will only play on Region 2 or multi-region DVD players.
This would tend to indicate that it is in PAL and not NTSC format, what with the UK/European standard being PAL. It is region free however, so as long as all of you US based people have a means of handling PAL formatted discs, you will have no region encoding to get around.

Had a look in 3 HMV's, and 2 Virgins...no plums, no pineapples, no bananas and no satsumas...the whole search was fruitless.

Note my post above where I state that Tower Records have it listed as a 17th January 2005 release... today is only the 7th so there are still 10 days to go.

I feel that there is something decidedly odd about this supposed release... the title is not listed online at Amazon UK, HMV UK, or CD-Wow, and the site linked to above has is as being released but "Usually Dispatched within 4-10 Working Days"... things that make you go, hmmmmm.

I'll wait for a few weeks and buy the Special Tour Edition with bonus disc...

...or maybe I'll get it later this week.

Hmmmm....

My account page at Play.com says they are awaiting stock, while a general enquiry reveals that it is not currently available.

Strange doings a-happening for sure.

Here we go:
MVC now list it as 'release date to be confirmed'
101cd as available
Play.com: not currently available
Tower: isn't listed but I'm pretty sure it was last week
Woolworths: release date to be confirmed
Virgin Megastores Online: not listed (which probably means they have 100 of them...)
Amazon, HMV, WHSmith: never listed as far as I know

They're probably waiting for Elvis to record his "director's commentary" and considering how long it sometimes took him to write his re-release notes, we could be waiting a while.

Since no one can find out about the Costello
DVD via retail sources maybe it would best to ask
Demon themselves. Incredibly they don't seem to have a
website/address ; maybe someone in the U.K. might like
to try writing to them/ phoning them/ faxing them .
Work means I cannot do anything myself today - does
anyone here have the time ?

Demon Records Canal House
Stars Estate
Transport Avenue
Brentford
Middx. TW8 9HF
England

PH 0208 847 2481
FAX 0208 5688223

Quote these basic details -

THE RIGHT SPECTACLE - VERY BEST OF

Catalogue # DEMONDVD003
Barcode 5014797600034

Good luck !

Maybe Demon have gone bust. That would explain lack of DVD and ceased phone line.
Here's a link that gives a different phone number (01932 770068).

I've just tried ringing it but it just goes over to a fax machine. It is after 5 so it may be worth a call in the morning.
