Tell, tell, tell, Martin, what do you think? I see there's a not too complimentary review on http://www.elvis-costello.com/news/
It was as much of the alphabet as I knew how to use.

I'm extremely impatient when it comes to new music from Elvis. I want it to leak NOW!

Dave Weil's review is a bit discouraging. Hope he is wrong about this one!

SPOILERS !!!
All due respects to Dave Weil, his views, so far, are after listening to it around 2 times, and a bit picky. I've listened to it a few more times and it's a hell of a grower. I'll say no more, you are all in for a treat.

I'm happy to wait for the release date this time around. Not that I'm not looking forward, mind you, but September 21st is/would have been my 13th wedding anniversary, and I will welcome the distraction! I just hope TDM does not send me into an artful spiral of grief the way NORTH did/does...

Too early to say, they are all great. Monkey To A Man had people unknowingly grooving when I played it at work. In an ideal world it should be blasting out of every radio morning, noon and night.

To quote from that review...
There's a nice little wank going into the second verse, and those of you who were worried about wanking on the album don't have a lot to fear.
Um, does the word "wank" mean the same thing in the US that it does in the UK?

Isn't this coming out the same day as the big "London Calling" package? Too much to digest in one day - I won't be downloading though - don't have the know-how/technology/interest - more out of laziness than anything else. I'll admit to being more excited about the Clash (as excited as I was about the "Get Happy!" and "Imperial Bedroom" reissues).

Out of curiousity, how many here are going to buy "Il Sogno" as well? I really don't have much of an interest.

Maybe eventually, but I have a lot of other classical albums higher on my list than Il Sogno.
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

I posted this on Thurs 26th -

Just got TDM .....in a shop!
To: COSTELLO-L@LISTSERV.AOL.COM

Yep, I walk in a little indie store here in Newcastle , England and , as usual, flick through the 'C' section , come to 'Costello' and theres a copy
of The Delivery Man ! So , of course , I grabbed it! Of course , I'm now maddened by the fact that I will not have access to a CD player until I get back to Dublin late on Sat. night!

Its a promo copy , dated '4/8/04', with a Mercury logo. So its a U.K. promo item. With only the 13 tracks of the U.S. version I'm curious as to why 'Pin isn't on it but , hey , it'll do to be going on with.

I also got in the same store- Steel Wheels , Vine Lane , Newcastle - a copy of the 7" vinyl edition of 'Accidents with the 'inside out ' sleeve,
a curio that has always eluded me. They also had loads of other E.C. vinyl, including a Canadian pic. sleeve for , I think, Olivers Army ( I didn't get it - Night Rally was one of the b-sides is all I remember).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On one partial listen - the album is a corker!
One long-time Costello fan , Mark Perry of the sadly defunct Beyond Belief fanzine, has also heard it and kept telling me in London (yesterday and today) that it has 'restored his faith in him (E.C.)' .

Now for bed - I'll listen to it properly tomorrow.

Yes, rip that bad boy. Share the wealth.

Is a "corker" a good thing?

corker

Slang. A remarkable or astounding person or thing.

n 1: a remarkable or astounding message; "that story was a corker" 2: a machine that is used to put corks in bottles
( the latter could in away apply to TDM - a bottle of fire and emotion!)

More on the album later.

john, I don't think that was really neccesary. 'corker' isn't a term used very often around my parts, and I dismissed it as slang. There is no reason to make me look like an idiot.

I must say that, being from the south, I long remember the term corker being used from parents, grandparents, etc. It still takes on the same meaning here as it seems to across the pond. :)
