Midnight Oil's Peter Garrett moving into the political arena

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Midnight Oil's Peter Garrett moving into the political arena

Post by Tim(e) »

It looks like Australia's Labor party is preparing to recruit and launch former Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett straight into Federal Politics by parachuting him into a safe Federal Labor seat in Sydney's Eastern suburbs...

Already, our Foreign Minister Mr Downer (an appropriate name if ever there was one) is claiming this is a move likely to damage our ties with the US

If you've ever observed Peter Garret dance you'll appreciate that that alone is enough cause for concern... he is seriously sexually repressed.

If Garrett eventually becomes PM...and Ruben Blades does as he once threatened and runs for President of Panama...well, I think that would be good, I guess.

It is actually not such a far fetched idea. The Labour Party is already hinting at the fact that if they knock over John Coward's Liberals (equivalent to your Republicans), then there is a good chance Garrett will be offered a front bench seat... which would most likely see him emerge as Environment Minister I would think.

He is extremely intelligent, erudite, and passionate about the causes he believes in, so there is no reason why he could not one day end up in the highest office... as long as he survives the muck raking and dirty politics that are sure to be thrown up in his path because of who he is and where he has come from.

Tim(e) you may well be right about Garrett being the Environmental minister one day. A friend of mine in the political field told me this some time before any of it was announced. We shall see.
