The Perfect Elvis Song To Sing To A Woman!

Post by wehitandrun »

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I've gone through many a song, and "lovable"/"human hands"/"everyday i write the book"/"so like candy" have led the way.

Just off the top of my head I'd say Human Hands, I Stand Accused and In the Darkest Place.
Mmmmm, I'm sure there are more. Gotta think about it.
I'm not angry anymore....

Lovable (and to a lesser extent "Everyday") is about a woman who likes to put herslf about a bit

I'd be wary of playing that one

My advice to youi would be to choose something off the second half of North....your favourite

Hey wasn't there a question in the 'Ask Elvis' thing by some human who wanted to know why he never wrote any straight out love songs...it's true to a certain extent, with a few exceptions. Most have got some kind of bitter twist..

'I want you' - obsessive/jealous,
'Love field' - one of my favourite songs, and all seems good except for the ''You think you're different from the rest , But you don't see how you've changed'' line
'Human hands' - the woman's doubt,
'The element within her' - inexperienced love,
'Everyday' - their on/off relationship,

I suppose 'Let me tell you about her' would be a great candidate, but can you sing it? What about 'I'll wear it proudly'? That seems to be about unrequited love.

First you need to think about how well you sing. Then you need to think about how long you have known the girl since there is good chance that this could backfire and scare her away like sending a new aquaintence a dozen roses after one date. There is a fine line between romantic and an obsessive stalker.

 .Crash mate..if he sings 'I'll build a bonfire of my dreams, and burn a broken effigy of me and you''...I guarantee the lady in question will start to think she's dating Ted Bundy.

Why don't you just sing something by Bacahrach and David? You're much safer with them than Elv!

I play "I Want You" for potential girlfriends. If they get it, it's a step in the right direction.

Lately I've been enamored with "Still" from North.

I can hit all of the Elvis notes, and throw in the Elvis-style vibrato.

I'm sorry that you all won't get to hear this in my Riot Act elvis cover(which, ummm, was our first recording? hah, i cant make excuses for it), but I'll have some of our songs on here by the weekend.

You really should hear me when we drive up to strangers, and I proceed to ask them if they had ever "heard of the song 'Alison' by Elvis Costello", and whatever the answer I jump right into the chorus at the top of my lungs.

(then we drive off giggling)

But yeah, I'm thinking certain parts of "Lovable" and "Brilliant Mistake" are perfect, as long as you don't sing the bad parts(as in- parts that're negative to lovely woman). I'm gonna go into her workplace with an acoustic and start playing and singing, it'll be an event.

The best thing about Elvis is that he doesn't sing trite love songs. The songs on North come close, but they're still better than most love songs. I'd have a hard time finding any song before that album that has a straightforward expression of love. There's always a bite to the lyrics, and not usually a flattering one.

Good luck.

Yeah, the closest I've found is "Sweet Dreams"- but even that isn't really a straightforward "i love you", it's more of a "imma kill yah if i cant forget yah" type of tune.

I know it's kinda poppish and lame, but "The Greatest Thing" is the sweetest love song EC has ever written. It's the only piece he's ever done in which he expresses pure happiness, without a bite of anger, bitterness, regret or humiliation.

Of course, he doesn't aim for "sweet", but maybe that's not a good thing.

A girl with brown eyes.

I'm not sure a girl of any name would want to be told, "Sometimes I wish that I could stop you from talking when I hear the silly things that you say. I think somebody better put out the big light 'cause I can't stand to see you this way."

Romantic with a hint of being elusive-"Can You Be True?"

Seductive-"Inch By Inch"
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken."

Thats obviously why you wouldnt sing that verse. Parts of the song are good, even the chorus. I'm sure the girl will look at "my aim is true" as a cute line, as opposed to its true meaning.

I don't know wehitandrun the part about the 'little friend of mine' taking off her party dress isn't too great either. You are left with little more than the chorus.
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken."
