Thoughts on a Frozen Afternoon
I’ve had this feeling for a while that things are winding down
The universe I mean, not just us
That the last ripples of the big cosmic wham are pushing
Out into nothingness
I don’t want to sound like some mad dirty doomsayer
But the end is always nearer than you think
I mean, one minute you here and the next you’re gone
And when you’re gone, you’re really gone.
That’s what always gets me about funerals. The difference
Between life and death is a spark. An atom, maybe.
Something tiny, but necessary.
A flash in the black twilight.
Just enough to make you wonder.

Thoughts on a Frozen Afternoon
Like me, the "g" is silent.
