Letter In Rolling Stone's current issue

Post by IStandAccused »

There is a very interesting letter in the current issue of Rolling Stone with Jessica Simpson on the cover. It pertains to Elvis...

It is in response to the issue with the "Women Of Rock" on the cover (the mention of EC & BB). The only reason why I'm not saying more is because it includes a controversial cast of characters. If anyone is interested in seeing it, I was letting them know, if not, I am not starting any trouble on the board. It is nice for the TRUTH to have a chance once in awhile.

It's another Bebe Buell rant, predictable old guff that is not worth any further consideration.

Allright, this Bebe crap has to stop.

So she slept with rock stars. Who cares? That was like thirty years ago, has she done nothing else worth noting? I (said with a sad and heavy heart) picked up a used copy of her silly book, flipped through it, and found that she is very wierd.

Whatever she believes is whatever she believes. I believe her story as much as I believe that Bush cares about Americans dying in Iraq. She sounds very much akin to a thirteen year old in love, but she's in her forties for God's sake.

I have no idea what her deal is, but thanks for telling me what the letter was about, I won't bother looking for the magazine now. Someone buy that girl and others like her a freakin calendar!!! That was, what in the late 70's early 80's? Let's move on with our lives ladies....

Ok, sorry, didn't notice that damn soapbox under my feet again.... :?

Yes, Liv is a great girl and her mother raised her really well. She didn't get that way by accident. From what I can gather, the letter in RS was in RESPONSE to something that was written as "fact" in relation to she and "the man". She is just trying to clear up, once and for all, what the truth is and was and what she REALLY said. I have a lot of respect for her to come forward and set the record straight. It was not a rant nor was it at all an attack on EC or anyone. From what I understood as well, it was one of the senior edsRS that asked her to reply. As for her looking at a calendar- she is married and according to her, "wishes Mr. Costello happiness and love". I think she would like for the whole speculation thing to be over once and for all herself. Maybe now that she did make this formal statement, it will. The letter was actually very good and informative. I have said all I wish to say on the matter. But before you make up your mind about a person, ANYONE, you should at least have all your facts together. Her letter did that for me.

Yeah, Liv is pretty cool....no complaints there.[/quote]

For the record, here's a trancription of Bebe's latest piece by Peter Haas on the eclistserv.

-Bebe Buell weighs in at Rolling Stone's latest letters-to-the-editor page
(Nov. 27 ish)!

She seeks to the set the record straight vis-a-vis Our Man.

<<First of all, I met Elvis Costello formally in the summer of 1978 - he was
recording Armed Forces when our relationship (transcriber's note: what a
fool believes!) began. If you read my book (transcribers note: when pigs
fly!), it states very clearly that none of the songs on that record were
about me. "Party Girl" seems to be a song that most "assume" (transcriber's
note: making an ass out of you and me!) was penned for me, but in fact we
hadn't met when he wrote it. I have never said anywhere, in print or
otherwise, that This Year's Model held me as its subject. In several of the
letters Elvis wrote me when were courting that summer of '78, he did include
many of the lyrics that went on to appear on Armed Forces (transcribers
note: talk about casting your pearls before swine!). He often said to me
that This Year's Model must have been an eerie "premonition" of some sort.
His words, not mine! (transcriber's note: guess that makes Black and White
World an eerie "memory" of some sort!). As far as "Little Red Corvette," my
book states very clearly that I did not feel that songs was about me, but
that others did. I even wrote, "There is not way the song can be about me,
Mom, I have never met the man" (transcriber's note: but the lyrics CLEARLY
state "Girl, u got an ass like I never seen").

One thing to remember about Mr. Costello: His favorite emotions are "revenge
and guilt." His words, not mine. (transcriber's note: Ms. Buell call your
office for your copy of North) My sin was I wrote a book, and he didn't
like that I told the truth about him and his behavior. Good and bad, he was
treated with great truth (transcriber's note: ah truth treatment, bring it
on Bebe babe!) I guess I have been banished to the corridors of "Bruce
Thomas" land, who also wrote a book (transcribers note: like you can play an
instrument or something) They are his songs, and he is free to change their
meaning anytime he pleases (transcriber's note: wow, an insightful comment
on the old "autonomie du texte" from the Bebestress!) For me, they are
lovely memories, nothing more (transcribers note: losing him (losing him) is
just a memory, memories (memories) don't mean that much to her). His
numerous letters will remain in a safety deposit box. I wish Mr. Costello
happiness and love (transcribers note: with a capital F!). Bickering about
the obvious has become tedious indeed. It's all about the "he said, she
said" - did I just quote Fred Durst? (transcriber's note:
http://www.usatoday.com/life/2003-10-07 ... love_x.htm )

Bebe Buell, New York (transcribers note: great town, but a house of
freaks)>>

Pete, your faithful transcriber who as always apologizes if he didn't read

Actually

Post by IStandAccused »

Actually dear Martin, she does play bass guitar on most of her recordings of which you can hear for yourself on her website at http://www.freewebs.com/bebebuell/
In my eyes I tend to have somewhat of a bit of admiration for anyone who "the man" has held close at any time in his life. Why? Because I respect him and think that he wouldn't have dated any of the women he has if they didn't have something special, and that includes Bebe. I will remain free to have my own opinion and I will also remain free of judgement.

Great job transcribing, MF!

I think you need to get hired at White House to transcribe all Presidential speeches.

Thanks Bobster, but that was a straight lift of a piece by Peter Haas on the eclistserv. I really don't know enough, or care, about the whole sorry saga to be qualified to make such comments.
