If I'd won, I wouldn't be letting you know !!
Seriously, I entered using my address as an "olde worlde" device and pretended my letter was from the early part of the 20th Century so I'm hoping it might have been a bit out of the ordinary to intrigue the lupotone folks

Funnily enough sulky, I'd be letting EVERYONE know. Particularly you.

I wonder how they will randomly choose. All I did was enter the details as asked for in a bog standard way. I presumed they'd just pick them out randomly rather than actually reading the emails.

It'd be interesting to know how many people entered. I can't believe anyone will actually try to play the 78s. It's also been reported that the 78s only contain excerpts. I bet they're completely different versions of the songs but nobody will know because nobody can play them!

i'm sure nearly every one of us dorks here did enter! we are VERY accustomed to kissing $50 and $100 bills goodbye towards E's way for decades and decades. and i am almost 100% certain that when one of us wins, we will see a brand new thread entitled something spectacular like "I WON THE SEVEN EIGHTS"! excerpts only would be kind of nasty. but, maybe the songs lengths approach the limit for 78 revs per min! anybody know the max a 78 can hold? anyone know if these are 7, 10 or 12 inchers??? if i read it, i missed it. luck to all...b

If I win the 78s, I will play them, absolutely! My record player has a 78rpm setting.

(And I think when EC said "excerpts", he merely meant that it will be 4 songs from the album, not that the 78s would contain excerpts of songs...)

VG's whole house is revolving at 78 rpm at present, he won't need a turntable !
I can't imagine there would be any point in releasing the tracks as snippets of songs rather than excerpts from the album and the individual songs complete in their own right. However, I still can't work out a way to play the damned things should I be so lucky !

And did everyone except me send in thousands of entries? Because that didn't appear to be against the rules (although they mentioned only 1 set may be purchased per customer). I only entered once, because it seemed more sporting, but I probably screwed myself.

I just sent in one entry.

I hope they weed out multiple applications.

In fact I don't care how they do it as long as I win.

I just entered once. But I got a bunch of people here at work to enter as well - all I had to do was explain to them what I would do with a couple of 78s. Fingers crossed now.

I'm hoping that they actually are printing up lots more and that everyone who wanted one can get one. And I thought you would get them before the cd came out. Not much time left.

Sadly, I'll bet it's already too late. If it was really only 25 sets for the entire universe, they might have all been won, paid for & shipped by now without any of us even knowing about it. :(

The fat lady hasn't started singing yet. I reckon there would have been an announcement by now.

Incidentally, the maximum playing time of a 12" 78 is about 4 and a half minutes per side (although most were well under 4 minutes).

78s were the way pop music was sold prior to the introduction of LPs and 7" singles, so they had to be able to hold an entire pop song.

Sorry guys. . . I was just pulling everyone's leg!

I didn't even enter to win. I would be curious to see if anybody on this board or on the listserv actually wins on of these little treasures.

Lang posts to listserv-
Simple link to a paypal payment to somebody named Beaumont Classic Records, which a little searching reveals to be in Vancouver, BC: http://www.beaumontclassicrecords.com/

Beaumont Classic Records is owned/run by Colin Nairne , Elvis' main man at Macklam Feldman Management. The same label released a album by Colin's partner Wendy Bird which featured Elvis playing guitar on one track. All very in-house - and why not?
