More TUBE goodies

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Nicely done. Bit precious maybe. Can't beat the original. They also did Bjork's stunner 'Joga' at the same gig. Good, but no Bjork.

One of my favourite song moments from one of the best recent TV series. Shame this edits the bit just before out: Jemaine runs into object of desire Sally at the laundromat, they talk about settling down, he says he doesn't want too, as if too cool for such things, but she says sure she days, leading to immediate song reverie of a settled down life with Sally. The chorus is so catchy, and there are so many laugh out loud lines.

Scottish band The Low Miffs and ex-Josef K's guitarist, Malcolm Ross.
The singer's voice might be an acquired taste, but the songs's catchy as hell.

Nice to see Malcolm Ross in action. What's he been doing all these years since Orange Juice? His JK guitarring was pure genius. There was a new Paul Haig song on a recent Word comp, bit average though, sadly. My 16 year old listens to Josef K a lot on spotify. Just like me at that age. 'So I'll disappear through a hple in the wall/And the passage of time will be nothing at all...'

Nikki Yanofski - Airmail Special
The kid's doing well by the sounds of it - has played Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, and Avery Fisher Hall already. She's also the voice behind the Olympic song and reportedly has a starring role in Friday's opening ceremony.

"Yanofsky’s upcoming album features her songwriting collaborations with both Harris [who who penned Norah Jones’ breakthrough hit “Don’t Know Why"] and famed Canadian songwriter Ron Sexsmith, in addition to an original song written for her by Nova Scotia native Feist. Paying homage to her jazz upbringing—she was the youngest performer ever to headline her own show at the Montreal International Jazz Festival...."

I love this incredibly laid back "interview" with Ron. Two things particularly: here you see the impact that Elvis' comments had on ron's career. It's rare you see how one artist's generosity pretty much alters the life of another artist, and Ron's matter of fact acknowledgment of it here is striking. I also like Ron's comments on writers he likes, and his take on the writing styles of Prine/VanZ and guys like Nilsson

Thank you for sharing this- not surprising he would like melody and be drawn to writers who share his facility for melody-though I do love Prine- appreciated the gracious thank you for past support from EC and Steve Earle[something I have appreciated about Spectacle]- surprised you failed to comment on the majority of the interview which is the way artists make their money-covers and catalogue-which is why I deplore the consistent theft of income that goes on against these artists when people willy nilly download illegally with impunity- just listen to Ron and how he still struggles for income-am fired up about this right now as a royalty check comes in the mail-also Jefferson Airplane is on my computer railing "We Can Be Together" and 'up against the wall, mother fucker' so I am filled with distemper but probably not the correct song for that feeling as it shouts to fight the system and I can just hear the download thiefs railing back that is just what we are doing, fighting the system- anyway feel for Ron and other artists as they struggle to make a living from their art.
