Vanity Fair (Nov.`03) feature on Elvis `n Diana

Post by johnfoyle »

Besides the two page photo the following
appears-
The Funny Valentines.
Diana Krall and Elvis Costello

musicians, singers , lovers , upholders of the
virtue of songcraft.

Krall: seven albums; two Grammys.
Costello: 24 albums ; one Grammy; inducted
into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.

Two old souls : he , the kind of guy who , at
the age of 19 , could write the lyric " Bad lovers
face to face in the morning/ Shy aplogies and polite
regrets" ; she , the kind of gal who , with that
beguiling , oboe-rich alto , already sounded like an
accomplished contempoary of Rosemary Clooney`s or Ella
Fitzgerald`s on her earliest recordings. That these
two paragons of Cole Porter urbanity and grown-up
mischief should find themselves engaged , well , it`s
delovely , wunderbar , the top , magnifique , and
whatever other Porter allusion you care to deploy.
We`ll leave it to the likes of People and Us to
speculate about babies on the way , but already , we
can report , there has been some cross-pollination :
Elvis , a longtime guitar man , is now singing while
playing piano , and Diana , a longtime "interpreter" ,
is now writing her own songs.

Photographed by Mark Seliger in New York City on
August 27 , 2003.

Styled by Wendy Schecter. Krall`s Gown by Vera
Wang; Shoes by Jimmy Choo ; earrings by Stephen
Russell. Costello`s suit and shoes by Dolce & Gabbana;
shirt and tie Richard James . Hair products by Phyto ;
makeup products by Woman Cosmetics ; hair , makeup,
and grooming by Voula Ampas ; set design by the Marla
Weinhoff Studio . For details , see credits page .

Righto - to P.237 and this -

Diana Krall`s hair styled with Phyto`s PhytoVolume
Actif Maximising Volume Spray , from selected hair
salons. Makeup products by Woman Cosmetics , available
at Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue stores ; on her
face , Sandy Liquid Foundation; on her eye`s ,
Eyeshadow in Mistress ; on her cheeks , Blush in Glow

I assume this is the annual music issue of Vanity Fair which is always a good read, and always has a bit of EC.

Bloody hell, they really are flaunting it, aren't they? Elvis look as though he's got really short legs! Nice photograph - looks like a Mark Selinger or Nigel Parry one.

There's a great feature in the same issue of Vanity Fair written by David Bowie on 25 obscure albums which he loves (some are not so obscure, but some are totally out there).
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

I really want him to be happy, but this pic is so her and not him. Well, at least how I would picture him. Sigh. I've really tried to like her more than I do. I just can't yet.

It's a lovely picture, but I just wish there'd be a picture with a nice hug, or, I don't know, some eye contact? All I've seen is pictures of Mr. Costello yanking Diana along behind him, or staring off into the distance while she gazes at him adoringly. I mean, throw me a fricking bone, here.

That scan's not so good, but in the actual magazine you can kind of see her nipples.

There, I said it.

So what do you think about getting into her, Blue?

Clearly I'll have to get it for the second year running, for the Bowie article, you understand.

I got it just because of the Annie Leibovitz article. It's a gorgeous photograph - love the non-formulaic pose of him on the piano and her standing up. Both looking good, though I wish he'd have a shave.

I like the photo.

She definetly has nipple showing...

I think it is yet more proof that he is so goofy in love that he'll be photographed any old way.....

As long as he stays in the suit and not a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, I don't care how he's photographed, they all work for me!!

I like the photo because it's not what you'd expect, and he does look genuinely pleased. The caption says it was shot just after his birthday. Perhaps it was a belated gift...

I LIKE Richard James' clothes. I think his shirts and ties are really snappy.

Do you reckon Elvis has got any cK logoed T shirts that he wears with his jeans so it looks like Costello Krall?

I tried when I first heard about their engagement..then I heard her covers of A Case of You..and And I Love Him (cough..her) and it made me ill.

It doesn't help matters that I think she looks like the human form of Miss Piggy..

I so..liked Cait...
