Blimey, shall I move to Toronto? For August at least?

Specials cancelled Brixton last Wed due to Lugubrious Terry's sore throat. Meant my Man Utd adoring chum had to go watch Chels v Barce in his local London pub instead, so at least he got some serious laughs out of the evening.

You'll fit in - there's probably a large amount of Man U supporter wankers who weren't born anywhere near Manchester (or even on the same land mass), and who know nothing about the game. Just like you!

Kasabian was fantastic. One of those occasions when the floor was moving!

Good week for me lined up:

Glenn Tilbrook tomorrow
The Fratellis on Wednesday and
Paul Weller on Friday.

Tonight I saw American soprano Dawn Upshaw in concert in the Shaw Room of the National Gallery , Dublin....and I'm feeling a bit miffed.

Ms Upshaw sang beautifully , with The Knights Chamber Orchestra for c.35 minutes , either side of Philip Glass' "Company" by the Ochestra. Then there was a 30 minute interval. Then we had we had some mediocre performances by The Knights of Copland and Bach , followed by The Knights accompanying a over amplified Fiona Apple Wanabee and a skinny bloke with a steel guitar. No more Dawn. The aghast looks on the mostly elderly audience was compounded by the shout from a usher for a Doctor as one old dear collapsed. And then we were not allowed leave the venue ( over lit, awful sight lines, stiflingly hot) as the exit was blocked by the ambulance taking the old dear away. All that for €60. Not as bad as WTTV in Paris last Nov. but getting there.

I haven't seen Mose in a few years, but he used to be a regular performer at Snug Harbor in New Orleans. You're in for a treat. A national treasure, it's hard to believe he has many more tours in him!

Todd Snider was fantastic. Just not long enough - the constraints of radio programming. Did lots of stuff off his new one, The Excitement Plan (which I had mixed up with a Joe Strummer lyric about The Excitement Gang - it's that oldtimer's getting me down), a sing-a-long to Easy Money, a standing ovation at the end of Conservative Christian Right-Wing Republican Straight White American Males (you might wanna look up those lyrics!). Tells good stories and is just a ton of fun. I had never been to the Bijou - it was right cozy, but worn looking enough to make a body nervous. Had a saloon feel to it somehow.

Anyway, Todd is everywhere this summer so rush out to see him

Morrissey played Cambridge, just about the only UK show not to be cancelled, with all the London dates cancelled due to ill health. Well I hope a new date that I can make is announced, I've been dreaming about tomorrow night. Hope he doesn't change the setlist too much when he comes back.

Bummer of a week!

Wonderful holiday! Bit like your Vienna and Prague outing last year, right? Would love to read more about what pieces are played. Can't beat the majesty of Bach, whether it's The Well-Tempered Klavier, the Goldberg Variations, the cello suites, the Brandenburg Variations, or loads of other wonders.

Moz's cancelled Brixton dates are now in July. Doesn't clash with holidays, or anything. Thank f.

Taking my daughter to see the Australian band Cat Empire at Madison Square Garden Theater in December. She loves their music - sort of a kitchen sink world music/latin/ska vibe. Lots of fun and it will be her first show.

Great photos. Now tell us a bit more about the music. What were the highlights? A Bach-focused holiday is a brilliant idea.

I was at a gig last night – my own, with four friends! First time I'd played drums in public for three years, in a proper Cambridge pub venue, the Portland Arms (though only a small room, 100 capacity), raising £800+ for the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation, due to the fact that one of us has two diabetic kids. This gave us our name, Sugarbeat.

We'd rehearsed loads and I have to say it came off pretty well (huge enthusiasm from the audience). Great fun, loads of stonkers, madly eclectic, something for everyone. All pretty well known songs, with the exception of the Broken Family Band's 'Cocktail Lounge', though as Cambridge's only current band of any renown, many in the audience knew it. The last two were the encore, and we hadn't rehearsed any others, so had to play 'I Kissed A Girl' twice as it went down especially well.

Ca plane pour moi
You know I’m no good
Can’t get you out of my head
Come on home
Why does it always rain on me?
I only want to be with you
Eton rifles
Sweet dreams are made of this (with Seven Nation Army intro/outro)
Stray cat strut
Sweet Gene Vincent
Picture this
Dreaming
Sweet about me
I fought the law
Cocktail lounge
I kissed a girl
Grounds for divorce
Crocodile rock
Wonderful world
(I kissed a girl repeat!)

Available for 40ths, weddings, bar mitzvahs and charity events in the Cambridge area...
