I am sure that it is just me, but IMO DPAM has morphed into an expat. egotist indulging himself at others' expense.
I believe that really he was/is an able musician who could have almost emulated Bob Dylan.
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL - I am not shouting, but using the best of DPAM vocal to sing ...
IMPERIAL BEDROOM New clothes ...
Re: IMPERIAL BEDROOM New clothes ...
DPM (I believe he dropped the A a long time ago, almost as quickly as he adopted it but with much less fanfare) has surely never had a problem with a shrinking ego. However, I think it's a long career of sticking to his guns despite the lack of commercial success that path engenders (and a very good agent these days) that has led him to his recent successes. There's nothing wrong with having friends in high places.
Artists require a big ego in order to survive their calling.

I have loved almost all of what DPAM has done since 1977 apart from his commercial decisions.
Re: IMPERIAL BEDROOM New clothes ...
DPM/DPAM/whatever is of UK birth but lives in the US, so he doesn't really have a lot of choice about being an expat.
He is undoubtedly an egotist, but again, that kind of comes with the territory if you intend to make a living from singing your own songs in public.
And he certainly indulges himself, if what you mean is he uses the status he's acquired to socialise with his one-time musical idols and make records in styles and genres that he's always fancied doing. I'm not sure you could really say that it's 'at others' expense', though? In what way? Who's suffering as a result of him doing all of that? He's able to do what he feels like doing because people have paid good money for his records, sure, but obviously that's your choice (and mine). If I buy an EC record/CD, I do it because I want to listen to it and enjoy it, not because I want to donate to the EC benevolent fund. My choice.
And I also believe that he is 'an able musician who could have almost emulated Bob Dylan', although Dylan is also an egotist who indulges himself, IMHO. And that's fine. EC has undoubtedly become a rather smug, middle-aged muso, but - as noted above - that's more or less inevitable if you have a successful career in music. And he still makes records I enjoy listening to and plays concerts I enjoy attending.
Happy Christmas, DPAM/DPM.

Yes - I rather agree.
