So, tell me one true thing.

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

For Elvis to come closer South. . . . .

For my kids to get along. . . .

For myself to quit making excuses about being too busy to write. . . .

For finding out whatever happened to Narb. . . .

For another Elvis Costello cd. . . . .

For a chance to hook up and meet some of the good people from this board. . . .

For some other people here to post their mugs. . .come on, MS!

Were you asking what I was waiting for - or for me to tell you one true thing? :)

Steve Earle could go upside Toby Keith's head with the proverbial quickness.

True.

Welcome back Elv! No comment on Steve Earle, of course!

True: The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return.

Such an odd song, but I've always liked it. Hilarious and still moving what they did with/to it in MOULIN ROUGE...

News of Steve Earle from the Billy Bragg website:
Concerts for a landmine-free world
Billy will be sharing the stage with Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, Chrissie Hynde, and Steve Earle for two dates in Britain this summer, shortly after returning from his Canadian tour. The shows - 'concerts for a landmine-free world' - are in Edinburgh on August 9 and in Leicester on August 10. The musicians will be performing in the round - all on stage at once - taking it in turns to perform a few songs each. For more details see our Tour Dates page.

Don't know about that Rope. What was true 5 minutes ago may no longer be true; it evolves, like memory. The laws of physics might not change, but human perceptions do. And you might have just imagined you saw some UFOs, projecting your imagination onto the truth as we do.

Or did you mean that in a sense other than these?

A belated welcome back btw, good to have you around. Same goes to El Vez and Norman Brain, and it'd be good to have Hungup back as well. And Mr. Average.

He's no match for Chuck Norris in the idiot stakes... or Chris Isaak for that matter.

One true thing: I could learn a foreign language between EC reissues.
A rope leash wrote:Yes, the truth may change, but the truth is always the truth. Something that was true might not now be true, but what is true is still the truth.

It makes sense to me, but then again, that's always a caution.

Yeah, we're all slowly trickling back in. Where's Hung-up? There's the one that ususally corrects me...

Sorry, I meant this to post on the "One true thing" post...duh.

But, now, reading Bamboo's comments again, I must say that even beyond human perception, there lies the "actual" truth, which might also change, but the truth is still the truth, even though what was the truth is no longer true.
If it's beyond human perception then it can't be too consequential to me, because I can only use whatever is available (deep, I know).

Another true thing: I could have gestated a baby between reissues.

Theoretically speaking, of course.

..but can't we take from our available perceptions and extrapolate from that the imperceptible basics?

I feel dizzy...

Only a bit at a time, I suppose.

All I know is that what is unknown is vast even if a lot of it is knowable (true), and I try to be pragmatic.

...and that The Rising doesn't suck.

The Rising is a good song. And so is Into The Fire. It's the only song that was made as a tribute to 9/11 rescue workers that doesn't suck.

so what else is True?? Y'all talk big but ain't coming up in the crunch. What's true for you? These things I know to be true:
1. Waxing any part of your body hurts.
2. Bears do shit in the woods.
3. Love does not equal respect.

another true thing: when it says on the package of Advil Cold & Sinus 'do not consume alcohol while taking this medication'--they're right about that! It picked me up, threw me down, and left me for roadkill.
