Cd a sorpresa da Elvis Costello per battere pirateria

18 settembre 2007

Elvis Costello come Willy Wonka. L’artista americano ha registrato solo dieci copie del suo nuovo lavoro e le ha fatte inserire in altrettante dieci custodie della sua raccolta ‘The Best of Elvis Costello: The First 10 Years’ record’, imitando quanto faceva il proprietario della fabbrica del cioccolato nel film recentemente reinterpretato da Johnny Depp.

BMG Music Service is now carrying The First 10 Years. Any chance they ended up in one of those?

Well buying only one copy gives a very low chance of success

Yeah, well, I thought about it and then had a flashback of when I was a kid and used to open all the Cracker Jack boxes just for the prize (always disappointing unless you scored tattoos!)... It had that kind of "I wonder" feel to it, but then I came to my senses... I think this "hidden material" story is just a rumor.

Why doesn't EC just do the exclusive download thing for fans... which reminds me - what's the bonus material on bonus.elviscostello.com - lame ringtones? I haven't checked it out yet...

A cover with 2 cd's weighs more.

Post by thomoz »

Has anyone thought about weighing the cd's in the stores?

If you pick 4 or so up and weigh them, you'll get a good idea of the proper weight (w/ price stickers and the like). Then, just weigh every copy you see. The one that's a couple ounces heavier has the extra disc.

Might the 2nd disc also be visible thru the skinny (plastic) edge of the digipak?

Does anybody know anyone who has a copy of the Kojak Variety CD with the extra tracks? That had a Congratulations certificate.

I wonder if this CD has a handwritten message from Elvis. If this CD actually exists of course.

Could this be what has made it's way to me as "iTunes originals - raw"?

It's certainly Elvis solo, has more songs than were released thru ITunes (at least so far), the timing seems about right and mine is a CDR but not much in the way of "new melody"

It's a nice little set with a song list of:

Alibi
Invasion Hit Parade
Kid About It (take 1)
Kid About It (take 2)
Kinder Murder
Little Triggers
Love Field
Motel Matches (take 1)
Motel Matches (take 2)
River in Reverse
So Like Candy (take 1)
So Like Candy (take 2)
Suit of Lights

Any thougts on a possible connection?

It's not a soundcheck for a solo show, is it?

I would say that if this "hidden CD" thing does indeed exist, it would include the "reworkings" of Alison and Chelsea that he did on the last Imposters tour.

For certain this is in studio as someone else says most of the song titles and then there is a long slient pause before the take starts. Not a sound check either as it not a PA type recording and every song is all the way through. They seem like just what it says on my CDR - the raw takes for the iTunes originals just more songs

As I pointed out in my original post, I agree that from EC's quote I'd expect more re-working but the way Elvis talks about things I thought it might fit. It sounds more professional than "a headphone plugged into a tape recorder" but then what Elvis' equipment might sound like and my idea of it are probably vastly different

I'm not good at posting or retreiving (sorry to say) but will look for help on that and post back if I make any progress

jmm - where/how did you get the CDR?

Rip the tracks using iTunes and upload to the net using this service - http://www.yousendit.com/ - They offer a free thirty day trial.

Thanks!

Would somebody be so kind as to send me copy of this?

One of the board members said she'd send it to me but she seems to have disappeared.

PM me.

As the song says, "I can't give you anything but my love"...

...although I'm happy to pay for postage etc.

Thanks.
