Can Kate Be True?

Post by bobster »

I'm sure many of you got the e-mail that begins with...

"Hello there,

I've been listening to North NONSTOP all week! It is truly an amazing CD. As Mr. Costello said it is very emotional and I hope you are all enjoying it as much as I am" and then goes on to pitch a EC Media player.

Don't know about you folks, but believe that "Kate" has been intently listening to "North" nonstop with about the same degree of belief that I believe that woman on TV at 3 a.m. really, really wants ME to call her up right now at "888-hotgirl." And couldn't she come up with a better word than "emotional." That's a little bit like calling "Raiders of the Lost Arc" "adventurous" or "Some Like it Hot" "comedic."

Actually, just curious if anyone downloaded the thing....

mmmm, i missed this bit of email.

voting for the buffy fan! we have to stick together.

(though, given the rest of the description, she'd be a Spuffy and think that Giles is old and gross. maybe i should rethink that vote....)

Well, well, well...

Did you perchance download the North Internet Bonus Track? Hmmm? Did you leave an email address during that little odessey? I would assume it's Microsoft's evil don't-give-a-rats-ass attitude to your privacy. I could be wrong coz I have a mac and although I could download the track, I couldn't play it. So maybe they don't ask for your address when you go to listen to the track. (I'm now on a work computer[pc], maybe I should listen to it on this)

But I blame microsoft for everything. Assholes.

Actually, Dr. J, I signed up for the "Elvis Street Team" of my own free will. Thought maybe I'd win something. I am a foolish mortal.

Poppet -- (Note to non "Buffy"/"Angel" fans, you will not understand the following. Talk amonst yourselves.) Thanks for the vote. I figured, at 29, she'd be mature enough to "get" Giles. Personally, I have nothing in particularly against Spuffys of Bangels or or Spandrews or Fikes or Langels or shippers of any sort. But she exists only in my imagination (sort of like a really good Democratic presidential nominee).

For myself, I am a BCDEFGHIJLKMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ-er. That means I was rooting for a series finale in which every adult character mated with every other adult character. Except Andrew. (He would lose his nerd purity in such an act, also known as his nurity.) I realize that what with characters like Clem, the loose-skinned demon and that Jaba-the-hut-by-way-of-Charles Nelson Reilly-style-demon in the bathtub, and the return of the praying mantis lady, this could be nasty. But art=pain!

I would have voted for the older guy rather than the young Kate (back to the Elvis thing, not re Buffy) but then I realised they'd have to pay a young female 'breaking into the industry' way less money... perhaps none at all!

The whole thing is so foo-ing cheesy. Oh, the shame.

It's weird... i got an email from a ''horny frustrated 18yr old co-ed living with 3 other lesbian flatmates'' and apparently she was wondering if by any chance I might call her, or visit her website where she was thinking about setting up audio-visual equipment of some sort as a fundraising thingy.... I never called, but can't help but wonder what might have happened had I taken the road less travelled. :?

Bobster - I too signed up for the "street-team" thang (I'm a greedy sucker) but didn't get that e-mail (somehow I feel I've been cheated) so it must have come from some other place. Or, I just didn't get it.

It's weird also because I signed up for those horny, frustrated 18 year old lesbians, but I never got that e-mail either.

Life is pain.

bobster, man, at first you said the buffy fan was *23*. if so, she is *so* not getting Giles is hot. trust me, i know 23 year olds. they go for Spike. as if he weren't just about as old, but hey, they aren't logical. (Anthony Stewart Head is 49, James Marsters is 41)

i bet the horny frustrated lesbians just hooked up w/ each other and didn't bother visiting you. what's the point, when they were just trying to find a way to not be frustrated?

or, maybe they got lost. i bet that's it.

Hey, Im 22 and I think Giles is way hotter than Spike. Not that I, erm, watch Buffy or anything . . .

I used to though, my roommates were into it. One of whom adored James Marsters.

I also think Elvis is a babe and Incubus is pretty boring . . .

to get back to the topic, what the hell would an "EC Media Player" be? one that only played EC? one w/ a skin of EC's mug?

if it had a skin of Steve, then well, i just might be interested. i always did go for the nerdly.

i'll try to shut up now. i really should be working.

Spandrews? I didn't know they HAD Spike/Andrew. GAH. Warrandrew, yes, but Spandrew? Can't...compute...mind...imploding...

Anyway, the way to resolve the who's-hotter issue with Spike and Giles is to just ship them together. Or, be pervy and throw Ethan in.

Oh, Lord --

I have encountered the motherlode of cross Elvis/Buffy fans! We are all family!

And, since Tokyo Vogue writes fanfic, how about Elvis meets Buffy and friends -- maybe they could cross paths in Europe, since that is where Buffy is rumored to be. Now that's something that could give so many folks the creeps it'd almost be worth doing!

Poppett --

Actually, you're mixing up my two Kates. Kate, the Incubus fan, is 23. Kate, the Buffy/Elvis fan is 29. A more wordly-wise age as to whether or not either could think Giles was "hotter" than Spike or whomever, I'll leave that one alone as any heterosexual guy who gets into such a discussion is moving down the path toward madness. (This, however, would not stop Andrew -- but I said "heterosexual", didn't I....)

mmmm. reconsidering then.

and remembering, that when i was a college sophomore i had a massive crush on my white-haired professor. okay, fine, even the 23yr old could 'get' giles. but not if she likes incubus. imho.

tokyo vogue - drop me a pm and rec some fic. :) not that i've got time to read it though, poor me.

but really, WHAT IS AN EC MEDIA PLAYER? anybody know?

I always wished Buffy was a programme I had gotten into. Maybe not. Is Spike the blond one with the English accent and way too thin? And Giles is the one who was in those coffee adverts over here, right? Giles every time then. If only he would keep his clothes on in that middle-aged guy programme. I'm 23, BTW and don't like Incubus.

No idea what an EC media player is, Poppet. Opened "Kate's" email, but I only got as far as guffawing at her "non-stop" listening of North. A Steve one does sound gooood.

Plaything --

You are wise beyond your years!

Yeah, Spike is the painfully thin Brit (despite his convincing accent, Jame Marsters actually hails from Modesto, CA -- the cow-town home of George Lucas, may crystal meth-heads and not much else!) and Giles, Buffy's mentor, is the guy from the coffee commercials (though you should be too young to remember -- they stopped playing the US versions about fifteen years ago or so, I think -- or at least it seems that way).

And, as I believe the DVD/videos are available in the UK, it's never too late to get started! I also think they're being rerun their. (In the U.S., or in my part of L.A. anyhow, the "Buffy" DVDs are easily rentable at your better videostores.)

Though, I've got to say that, like all US TV shows, the quality is variable because of the sheer volume of material. I'm not sure where to tell you to start except maybe at the beginning. Just be aware that, at least in my opinion, the show didn't become truly great into early into the second season/series. Still, the first season is fun (which was only 13 episodes, slightly over half the length of a typical U.S. season) -- particularly the first two episodes and the last one or two.

For me, the show didn't really kick into overdrive until the episode called "School Hard" -- which, btw, introduced Spike.

Bobster, are you trying to lead me down that dark and dangerous path to Buffy addiction? I'm having none of it, I tell you!
