Elvis Costello and the Attractions
1984-08-11
Philadelphia Spectrum
(11 songs only)

King Biscuit Flower Hour CD
DIR Radio Network
Air Date: March 5, 1989

Quality: A
Source: KBFH silver CD
Lineage: silver CD > EAC > WAV > CoolEdit 2000 (to split tracks) > flac8

No good place to split Lipstick Vogue from Watching the Detectives,
so I left them together.

The host says "recorded at the Tower in Philadelphia",
but this is said to be from the Spectrum, 1984.
There are other KBFH versions of this same show, as well as an
audience recording in circulation.

-----------------------------------
music segment 1 [38:13]
-----------------------------------
01.) intro
02.) Let Them All Talk
03.) The Greatest Thing
04.) Girls Talk
05.) Lipstick Vogue / Watching the Detectives
06.) Clubland
07.) Everyday I Write the Book
08.) The Only Flame in Town
09.) Gettin' Mighty Crowded
10.) outro 1
-----------------------------------
music segment 2 [12:37]
-----------------------------------
11.) intro 2
12.) Alison > Tears of a Clown
13.) Pump It Up > Ain't Got a Lot of Love
14.) outro 2
-----------------------------------

I've tracked and included *everything* on the CD,
partly in case anyone actually wants it all, but mainly
because of the Glenn Tilbrook and Beat Farmers beer ads.

For burning, there are several options:
1.) Just use the 14 tracks above.
2.) or skip 10 and 11 -- the transition from Crowded to Alison is smooth.
3.) or all the tracks above, and place the Tilbrook beer ad between 10 and 11.
4.) or use the lead promo (see below), then Tilbrook ad, 01-10, Beat Farmers ad, then 11-14.
5.) or whatever you like.
For your Ipod, you can easily skip both intros and both outros

I have this show- an excellent representation of EC circa 84 with the TKO Horns and fantastic sound. I especially like The Greatest Thing and Let Them All Talk.

As promised, here is my "complete" version of the King Biscuit broadcasts of the 1984 Philly show. It has a few more songs than the previous version shared on DIME, but the sound quality will be slightly inferior to that nicely sourced version. I recorded these shows right off the air on a cassette machine that I can not recall, but the tapes themselves are TDK SA, always my favorite. To digitize them, I played them back on a Nak MRI with azimuth adjusted.
I have also included in the file the other songs from this concert that appeared on the "Grizzly Growl" radio show some years ago. If you want to mix them into the set, I will leave that to your discretion. The Grizzly versions are mixed rather differently and are quite compressed, with an obnoxious amount of audience racket dubbed in between songs. Still you get some pretty damn cool renditions of Inch By Inch and Worthless Thing and some wonderfully sloppy Milk Cow Blues and so forth.
Enjoy.
Do not convert to MP3 and never sell
