Help me kick cancer's butt

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Help me kick cancer's butt

Post by RedShoes »

That's right, Blue and I are doing The Canadian Cancer Society's Relay For Life once again this summer and I'm back shamelessly asking for donations.

As a few of you already know, I'm putting a lot of time and energy into this year's event and am trying to make it the most successful year ever both with my team personally and the event as a whole. This year I'm volunteering pretty heavily as the Central Toronto Committee Team Chair, and it's my job to make sure we have a large number of successful teams. I know a large number of us here have been personally touched by cancer, and I'm glad to be able to do my part to fight it.

So far I've personally raised $280 for my team, and am hoping to get that number up to $500 by event date which is less than four weeks away. I hope you'll consider sponsoring my efforts, which you can do by following this link:

If you have any questions at all, drop me a line!

Also - I'd like to send a special thank you to our very own martinfoyle who generously donated $50 already!

I am diagnosed with end-stage embryonal cell carcinoma but I have done very well fighting it with a combo of orthodox and nontraditional interventions, including herbal medicine and megavitamin thereapies and imagination practice. I look closely at the organizations behind cancer in the states, and for the record, the two big one (the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute) are corrupt to the core.

I can only presume that the Canadaian Cancer Society actually gets donated money to research and to patient care. In the USA, the ACS is the vehicle for that, yet < 5% of all donated monies by hard working, philanthropists like you actually subsidizes research and is reserved for patient care and comfort. The rest? Propaganda against alternative therapies and practices, and supporting the bureacracy that is the ACS. .The NCI is the governement arm and is so deeply corrupted it is beyond repair, and if I could, I would scratch the whole group and start over with people like you, who genuinely give a damn.

i would suggest you look at the way your donations are being spend, Redshoes. It in NO way diminished the genuine act of kindness that you display by your unselfish work for others. But it may show you an alternative way to help the very people that you are striving to help, by knowing what percent of the money that you donate is going to what....

I'm very sorry to hear about your battle with cancer, Mr. Average. I'm relieved to hear that you are improving, and I hope your treatment plan continues to work for you. You're another person I'll be thinking about as I walk through the night at Relay.

I'm sorry that your experiences have led you to have distrust of ACS and other charitable organizations. If you (or anyone else) want the reports as to how the CCS spends the funds earned, please visit:
http://cancer.ca/ccs/internet/standard/ ... en,00.html

As you'll see, they publish their annual financial reports on the site - compiled by a third party. 2007's report is here: http://cancer.ca/vgn/images/portal/cit_ ... _07_En.pdf
