I heard that Libertango on the radio the other day. It sounded amazingly familiar, and I realised it was because of Grace Jones's fabulous 'I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango' from one of my all-time favourite LPs, Nightclubbing. That comes across as very French due to the lovely Frence accordion, the French verses and lines like 'Parisian music drifting from the bars', so it was interesting to hear the original 'Paris of the south' version. Do you know the Grace J one? Do check it out if not, the LP is well worth it.

The Unforgetable Fire and All That You Can't Leave Behind - U2. If the latter had been put out by an unknown band, everyone might be far more amazed. New York.. New York... so poignant.

For me it's their best work by a long way. They did some great songs earlier on, but I always had reservations, whereas ATYCLB seems to me that they've hit a new level of quality which is both very straightforward and very powerful.

Otis.

Is it really better than Achtung Baby ? I might go and buy it if so. I loved the singles (esp Stuck in a moment...)

Doofster,

If you like the singles on ATYCLB, you should buy the album b/c the rest of it is great too! Achtung Baby is my favourite U2 album though. I think on ATYCLB they managed to appeal to an even wider audience. ATYCLB is more listener-friendly than say AB, Zooropa or Pop. Their next album sounds like it's coming along nicely too..I can't wait.

U2 is my first musical obsession (but Elvis is a VERY close second!!!!)

I'm listening to Jason Mraz. There must have been something in that pudding earlier...

Finally picked up The Juliet Letters last week. Just a badass album!

Two recent disappointments, though. Gillian Welch & David Rawlings' Soul Journey feels like a transitional record. It's perfectly fine, but it sounds like they are playing around with things that may take them another album to completely flesh out.

The new John Hiatt & The Goners album, Beneath This Gruff Exterior, was also a letdown. It covered much of the same territory that The Tiki Bar Is Open absolutely nailed but this time it felt kinda shopworn to me. A similar thing happend with him when he put out Stolen Moments, the third of his "Recovery Trilogy" albums, where a lot of the songs sounded like outtakes from Bring The Family and Slow Turning.

where was the pudding? I don't remember any pudding...There was the sudafed and the hard lemonade...
I listened to that for three days straight. I really like about half the songs on it. He played in Knoxville sat. night; I didn't go, but my oldest kid did and thought it was pretty good, but not as good as Third Eye Blind--but only because he knows ALL 3EB, but not much Mraz.
Like me, the "g" is silent.

Steely Dan 'Everything Must Go'. Agree with Solacklustre that it is very nice, indeed.

Also Peter Tosh 'Legalize It'.

OH MAN IT'S AWESOME!!

It's TOTALLY introductory, as all he's heard is "She," which he likes.
I tried to put the hits on, you know, but I tried to include songs that suit his style.

One thing I like about greg, is just that he's a total appreciator. He appreciates great stuff, which is nice. He's a lot more open minded then most people around here, so I'm excited at the prospect of a friend who will enjoy EC.

I know he'd like Everyday I Write the Book, BUT I FORGOT IT!!

1. No Action
2. Pump it Up
3. She
4. Beyond Belief
5. Oliver's Army
6. Imagination is a powerful deceiver
7. veronica
8. accidents will happen
9. watching the detectives
10. alison
11. i hope you're happy now
12. all the rage
13. all these things
14. i want you
15. almost blue
16. party girl
17. i just don't know what to do with myself
18. radio, radio
19. poor fractured atlas
20. shipbuilding
21. two little hitlers

Maybe I'll make it again and replace All The Rage with Everyday I Write the Book....I know that most of you would never do that, but remember, he's a newbie.

Does anyone else have any suggestions since I'll be revising it?

Different songs or maybe just a different playing order???

I think you should drop a couple of the hits and replace them with something from WIWC (Tart?), and something from MLAR (All Grown Up or Couldn't Call It Unexpected No.4).
