the messageboard cliches thread

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Yes, I really like that album too, particularly this song and that song. I saw them once in '86 but I should really check out their other albums. Has anyone got any recommendations? What are your top 5?

"This album is their 'Sgt. Peppers' or 'Harvest'. "
I'm very guilty of using that hackneyed cliche.

"Dick, I'd give it an 8.5 because it has a good beat and you can dance to it."

For completists only.

In my opinion, it's a good record but (insert obscure/ancient/boring old fart's name here)'s version was so much better.

North is essential listening.

and let us not forget: RIP.

I had the import on vinyl. But when my parent's basement flooded I lost the record AND my air mattress.

There are two phrases that really really annoy me on some soccer boards I read: "at this level" which got stab-your-eyes-out bad during the world cup and has thankfully waned in popularity, and "spot on" which is used by many American soccer fans to sound knowledgable (and for most of them, that means English - not that there's anything wrong with that!).

Yes, I'm cranky. Pay no attention.

MDM - you'd love some of the football/soccer commentary on our TV. My particular favourites are

"At the end of the day..." and

"He's set his stall out", sometimes extended to "He's set his stall out early doors".

On the subject of this thread:

"I prefer his older stuff" and anything that has the word "seminal" in it.
Who’s this kid with his mumbo jumbo?

That's a good one - all I can think of when I hear it is seminal vesicles from high school biology class.
