Put yourself on the map

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Put yourself on the map

Postby RedShoes » Sun Oct 30, 2005 9:34 am

Blue and I discovered this earlier and thought it would be pretty interesting with this forum:

http://www.frappr.com/elviscostellofans

Check it out! Add yourself! It won't accept your entry unless you fill in the whole form (name, location, & shoutout) - but you don't hava to add a photo if you don't want to. The default only shows North America, but you can zoom out to see the whole globe.

I'm curious to see how this looks once more people are added :)

Wow! That's cool, esp on Satellite mode. Funny to see the obvious, state-shaped lack of data, including from my grown-up-home state (Massachusetts) and my native state (New Jersey).

I also like how Vaughan (a Toronto suburb of little distinction) is on the map, but not Toronto
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

Wow, my hometown was on the list as well, so now you can see me (well, almost) on the satellite image.

Cool, though on Mac Safari it didn't let me select the town name from the list, so I had to type it out exactly as it appeared on the list to get it to work.

Would be nice if there were more detail outside of North America, given the global nature of our little community. Still very cool though.

The next step is spy cameras
Preacher was a talkin' there's a sermon he gave,
He said every man's conscience is vile and depraved,
You cannot depend on it to be your guide
When it's you who must keep it satisfied

It's not down to the address level - just zip/post code.

In the mean time, last time I checked there are more than 20 people who use this forum. Map it up, folks!

Well, I signed up, but the darn thing won't let me look at a map. It says to try zooming out, but there's no zoom button. Red, fix it!

Use the thingy up in the left hand corner to scroll left and right, up and down or to zero in one an area, by clicking - or +. Or does that not appear in your browser?

You can also just click on a name on the right and it will take you there.

Hmmm, are you using Safari on your laptop? Try doing a software update - they recently added some fixes for OS X.

I am in an Internet cafe in South America. It's not exactly bleeding-edge tchnology here.

I see - probably a browser issue then. If it's any consolation, the rest of us can see you - and your photo.

Perhaps one of the nerdier/wiser hacker types among us could infiltrate that site and make it play Satellite every time we open that window?

Excellent - we have our first member in the Maritime Provinces (step forward, little martinet!). My uncle has a summer place on PEI and has been trying to convince us to come up there to visit him for the past several years. We will make it there one of these days. It just seems like such a long trek, especially with impatient children!
