Can't decide who I want to lose most tonight. I think utd may win, but they need to attack rather than play the cagey tactics that they sometimes employ (successful against Barca but not against Ch in last yeasr dullest ever Fa cup final). Thought Vidic was overpriced at 33/1 to get the first goal so had a small bet, glad to see he is in the line up. Hope the referee doesn't ruin the game.

Re: Wake up you footy fans!!!
He was being a little bit too pro-Chelsea, but knew when to correctly show a red card. Drogba should have been sent off for his ridiculous reactions to every single moment of the game that involved him. Ballack and J Cole also scored very highly in the sheer obnoxiousness ratings. Lovely to think that Drogba might well have secured Chelsea that 5th penalty! I had a feeling Ronaldo was going to fuck up. That hesitation thing just made it easier for Cech. I think it's the first penalty shoot out of any significance I've ever seen my club or country win. As Fergie said, his first penalty win of significance too. As in the league, Chelsea gave us a good run for our money, but the real talent got the silverware!so lacklustre wrote:Hope the referee doesn't ruin the game.
A beautiful night, despite some agony along the way. What can make a football fan happier than seeing his club win the two big ones in under a decade?

Re: Wake up you footy fans!!!
Back to work next season and let's see what we can do with some changes to the squad and maybe a new man in charge.
This is a cruel cruel game sometimes. Magnificent effort from the Blues after a bit of a shaky first half. Chin up, John Terry. It was an incredibly tumultuous season and we came this close to winning the Champions League. All of you Chelsea haters can kiss my ass!
CAREFREE!!!

John Terry missing the penalty is forgivable.
His crying like a little schoolgirl afterwards is not.

Well done Man U and congrats to Otis who must be well pleased!! Commiserations to WSS - its always gutting when you lose on penalty shoot outs and really is just luck - i really feel for you!
I was obviously gutted for my sons who are devastated to have lost 2 cup finals now , but on the other hand very pleased that Spurs are the only London club to have won any silverware this year!

Love it! You could probably have made a mint selling those in Manchester today (yes I know, and in Surrey too).
Indeed, why shouldn't Terry bawl his eyes out. Wouldn't you?
I got congratulated many times over today. It was fabulous - the respect for having the good fortune to support the world's number one football club made me feel quite special!

How is that good fortune? It's like saying that you're fortunate to drink Coca-Cola. I could throw a rock in Manhattan and hit three Manchester United fans. Probably four in Tokyo.Otis Westinghouse wrote:the good fortune to support the world's number one football club made me feel quite special!

You can bet your ass there would have been a few Fulham players shedding a tear if they'd been sent down, and I doubt you'd be on here criticizing it, John Wayne.Boy With A Problem wrote:Otis Westinghouse wrote:Indeed, why shouldn't Terry bawl his eyes out. Wouldn't you?

Re: Wake up you footy fans!!!
Good fortune doesn't mean it's exclusive, and it isn't like Coca-Cola in that you don't make a pledge at the edge of 6 to love and be loyal to a drink, and drinks don't win silverware, not in this way, at least. Do you know the story about how Christmas was coming up and I was under pressure to choose my team, and being in Jersey local allegiance was irrelevant? It was mostly Leeds, Chelsea and Man Utd among my peers. I couldn't choose between Man Utd and Chelsea, but decided it would probably be Chelsea as I liked the blue and my brother was born in London (I was born in Oxford). He then told me I couldn't because Mum had already got me the Man Utd bag, so fittingly enough, this extreme southerner became a fan via the merchandise! Good fortune, you see - imagine if I'd ended up a bloody Chelsea fan!!! As my mum pointed out, I had Manchester roots in her parents, so there. You're just jealous.Who Shot Sam? wrote:How is that good fortune? It's like saying that you're fortunate to drink Coca-Cola. I could throw a rock in Manhattan and hit three Manchester United fans. Re: Wake up you footy fans!!!
I don't know if I heard you tell that story, but fair enough. I wasn't trying to denigrate your support, just point out that the life of your average ManU fan in the past 20 years or so has been amazingly easy and pain-free.
Congratulations on winning the cup. To come that close to winning our first European Championship and to fail in such cruel circumstances is a hard pill to swallow. Nobody's got any sympathy for Chelsea of course, but if you're someone like me who's been following the club for a long time it's tough. I even had a Derby supporter giving me a hard time yesterday - a Derby supporter!
Hopefully we can use all that disappointment to our advantage and come back next season even stronger.

Re: Wake up you footy fans!!!
... without Avram. I'd love to know if he'd have gone if Drogba hadn't slapped, then again, no I wouldn't. Such a knife edge.
Friend said to me today he was neutral but favouring Chelsea but was forced to switch his allegiance during the game due to all the play-acting. Slag him off, but Fergie generally does curb the excessive whingeing and diving of players like Rooney and Ronaldo and get them focussed on the football, whereas the Chelsea culture does seem to encourage them. That's got to be a key source of hate. Drogba should have been (note the tense) the most feared and respected stirker in in Prem, but he ended up looking like a total twat.

Yeah I've never seen Ronaldo take a dive and Rooney's a little angel with the referees.
