Random Thoughts

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

That one goes along with "to be honest"[does that mean their previous words were not or that they normally never are?].

I've never heard anybody say, "Not to be a jerk, but..." without intentionally saying something that makes them sound like a jerk.

Strange reversal, after decades of being dragged downstairs by young ones in the household, I alone am downstairs sitting around the tree, sipping coffee and holding the cat and wondering when we can open presents. The girls are up stairs fast asleep! Strange reversal.

I've had the opposite but one day what's happened to you will happen to me.

I've had the joy of mini VG loving the magic of Christmas and mini VG2 a bit bemused by it all.

We finished opening presents yesterday. In a nice way they don't like opening presents in the sense that they enjoy the present they've just opened rather than just ripping through them one by one.

Santa didn't bring me the Elvis box set so it looks like it's down to BWAP et al

I do not think I have ever seen so much rain in one day as I have today. I was up at 6.30am with mini VG1 and it has rained constantly apart from a 10 minute break. And it's 11.40pm now.

Incredible!

I was watching The View the other day and Barbara Walters was saying how she had an interview set up with George Zimmerman about that kid he killed. Barbara flew all her staff down to Florida for the interview, but George decided to cancell because they couldn't agree on certain things. As Barbara was talking about all this George's people called to do a fast interview via phone. Barbara said no and went on with the show. Paul Williams, the singer/songwriter famous mostly during the seventies, was on. Before he started to sing a collection of his hits he commented, '"If I have to be bumped for a Zimmerman I just hope it's Bob Dylan."

There's a documentary out about him (Paul Williams) that I'd like to see. Apparently, the guy who made it thought Paul was dead. Not the first time that mistake has been made.

Why is it that when people are saying that the Olympics is the greatest show on Earth, I keep thinking "Have you never seen the Spectacular Spinning Songbook?".

There was a teacher training day at Mini VG's school which led to an impromptu day off work for a visit to the zoo and the pub for dinner.

And to think, I always used to moan because teachers have training days during term time!

I remember father/daughter days like that. I could have used a straight Shandy[all plain cider] and warm at the local pub, today. Trust MiniVG enjoyed her's.

I just watched a documentary on Henry Ford on PBS. Most surprising thing I learnt is that he was anti-Semitic.

Funnily enough I knew that.

Great thing happened today. A meeting I was scheduled to go to has been cancelled which means I can go to mini VG's first sports day at her school. :D

All too familiar with that- sad thing it is only on the stronger edge of what I have witnessed or felt my entire conscious life. :( Henry just took it to the nth extreme.

Today is Franz Kafka's 130th birthday anniversary- nice to see one of his memorable creations be recognized in this manner, particularly given the 'randomness' of Gregor's change and even the apple that figures in the story gets a Google nod 8)

Wow, forgot completely that FK was a fellow Cancerian, or that he was born 1 year, 5 months and a day after Joyce. Golden years. I haven't really read Kafka since I was a student, but he's been in my consciousness since I read pretty much all his known work back then. Respect.

Ah you Cancerians!! "As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams....." And you are so right, Otis, once read his stories keep a hold on one in the back recesses of one's mind. 8)
