Mel Ott is an answer to an excellent baseball trivia question. Name the player who played the most games in a New York uniform (Yankees, Mets, Giants, Dodgers).

And of course Moises is the son and nephew of a classic baseball trivia question - name the only three brothers to start for one team in the outfield in the same game (Felipe, Matty and Jesus Alou.

Snooks Eaglin, one of New Orleans greatest guitar and vocal treasures, has passed away. I used to love to see Snooks at the Rock n Bowl, which is exactly what it sounds like it is: a bowling alley with live music going at all hours. Snooks, incidentally, was blind and was an inspiration to every guitarist who heard his playing. RIP Snooks.

If you can kiss it (and it belongs to you), it's probably your elbow.

This isn't a random thought, but random good news. Maybe we need a thread for that too.

Happy Mardi Gras everyone! I remember all those years in New Orleans I would laugh at (most of) the rest of the world. I was drunk and having fun and for everyone else it was just Tuesday. Now I'm the rest of the world..... and I don't like it.

And yet I know that it is the spirit of New Orleans that still lives within you and has made you who you are today. It is that spirit which has made you strong enough to go forward after Katrina when a lot of people weren't so lucky. You're just the greatest, don't forget that.

It was 7 years ago today that I buried my brother, and yet I know that he loved the whole Mardi Gras celebration. So I have made a King Cake and I will throw out lots of food tonight because he would have done the same thing. And because Mardi Gras just has a certain spirit about itself that everyone can love, even those who are not associated with New Orleans.

And Pophead, dear, you will NEVER just be "the rest of the world."

I made three rounds of pancakes. One after school (having come home early especially for this purpose), one after dinner and one after the football. Batch 2 hit the sublime notes with some very thin and lacy but also delicious pancakes. Just a little lemon juice and sugar.Yum. Batch 3 seemed to have lost the plot. Maybe the batter was getting tired, or maybe I was, or maybe it was latent frustration at Man Utd's failure to get the goals they deserved that was the cuase.

Tell me about it. I can't even look at my 401k statements. At this rate I'll be working until I'm 80, if I survive that long.

Well, mine was a pathetic amount to begin with, but now 1/2 of it's gone and the same assholes who said 401ks were the Best! Thing! Ever! are say Now!!! is the time to invest. I get the feeling that I'm just lining their pockets. Whoever they are.

But I'd probably just squander it on tshirts anyway.

So, I was thrilled to read this today, and I know oily will be as well. Maybe even Otis. And the rest of you.

Wow, I am SO not looking forward to the prospect of a $103 monthly Metrocard. It makes me want to move back to Jersey out of spite.

And, of course, because New Jersey's where America's at!
