Jackshit Updates

Post by Misha »

Hiya Everyone,

Being the resident Shithead....or Misha Shit.....I'll give ya all the lowdown on the boys from Cocktotin California, 90 miles south of Bakersfield.

The boys are playing again on Friday the 25th of June....for those of you thinkin'...that's next Friday at the Viper Room up in L.A.

Then.....they will be back at the Baked Potato on June 30th...which is the following Wednesday.

For those of you who might not know....Jackshit is Pete Thomas, Davey Faragher, and Val McCallum...and anyone else who shows up that night.

People who have been at the shows and appeared either in the audience or on stage...who I recognized or were pointed out to me:

Jackson Browne--Kick ass
Sid Straw---Had no idea who she was--Did ok Crazy
Jennifer Tilly---Did pretty good Crazy
Michelle Branch--spilled ice on my friend--did not sing.
Willie Garson--audience member.
Jon Cryer--audience member
Jessica somebody...who sang an amazing Crazy
Mitchell Froom--Trumpet player extrordinaire....part of the Shit Horns
Sara the amazing trumpet player...part of the Shit Horns

They are now forcing people to do Jackshit Karaoke....which means, they will play Crazy regardless....but someone really should get up on the mic and sing......resident famous people are always encouraged.

Anyone at the show on Monday who can tell me who Jessica was? She kicked ass.

FYI....they have the tracks recorded for the next album....they are mixing them or something now.....hopefully we get it soon.

This has been a public service announcement.

Misha , you once posted an e-mail address fo people to send their details and become a 'Shithead' ie get updates on Jackshit activities etc. . I did but never got a response ; any suggestions on correcting that?

By the way some would say I am , of course , a shithead already - I'd just like it to be official!!

Hiya John,

The email address for now is Jackshish@aol.com.

Try getting on it again.....she might have just lost it for some reason. They have a problem getting notices out because of AOL's blocking, but they might have that worked out. Sign up again.....and she hardly never responds...just so you know....just ask her to get you on it.....promise a lucrative record deal....undying fandom.....

I knew you were a shithead....just like me,,,,probably why we get along so well......maybe they need membership cards.....

They are working on getting someone fired up for a website...so that's in the works, but it looks like it may be a little while down the road. We'll see......I'm tempted to poke some people their way.....

How's that for answers?

Hope you are doing well John......and Martin

Hey Misha ,
Ask Pete about this -

http://www.startribune.com/stories/457/4844966.html

Har Mar Superstar has recorded "The Handler," due Sept. 14, with producer John Fields and guests the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Michael Bland and Pete Thomas, Elvis Costello's drummer.

Ok, Foyles...

I am actually printing this sucker out....if I get a chance to talk to Pete, I'm definetly showing him. I've never been to the Viper Room, so I don't know if we are going to be able to chat like at the Potato...but if we don't, we'll chat next week at the Potato.

Also....Pete is playing with Mutual Admiration Society...whoever they are. July 31 at the Roxy. It says they are:
Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket)
Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek)
Sean Watkins
Chris Thile

Performing with VERY special guest:
John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin)
Also featuring: Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello)

I know nothing about this....has an old photo of Pete...really old...like his hair is 1/2" long old.

There you are.

Oh, and Martin, I'll throw in some money to get this boy cleaned up....do you take Paypal?

Misha -- 6/30 is the night I'm officially out of my Whittier apartment...I'm moving to Anaheim, Lord help me. (It sucks, but it's only two miles away from the office and it's just a few months anyway.)

Anyway, I'll try but it could get complex -- I'll get in touch! Thanks!

- Believe it or not, Har Mar Superstar is for real (at least Karen O and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Pete Thomas of the Attractions and Imposters—as in Elvis Costello's bands—think so). Judge his Stevie Wonder and Prince antics on "Brothers & Sisters" (MP3).

Things have slowed down a bit at work.

Last night Alana, Levi, Wonder and I went and saw the Mutual Admiration Society. Basically it is Nickle Creek, Glen Phillips, John Paul Jones and the drummer from Elvis Costello. It was an awesome show and then afterward we got to go back stage and hang out with all of them.

Unfortunately I did not get the opportunity to shake John's hand, but I can still say I was mere feet from one of the best bass guitarists of all time. Lest anyone reading this (and my readership has declined sharply of late) does not know who John Paul Jones is, he was the bass player for Herman's Hermits, the Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, The Yardbirds, and then, Led Zepplin. http://www.led-zeppelin.com/EMJPJ.html In short, he is a god.

I did get to meet Pete Thomas. He was the drummer for Elvis Costello. He was hillarious. His drumming was amazing.

It was a great show, and we had fun. Sara and Sean of Nickle Creek are really cool down to earth people. It was fun to see them again and I am sure this new project will pan out well for them.

Golden Nugget: Gallows Pole -Led Zepplin (which Mutual Admiration Society covered last night)

Har's playing the UK at the moment, dear god, he may even play Dublin!

Har Mar Superstar
2 stars Welly Club, Hull

Dave Simpson
Thursday August 5, 2004

The Guardian

The Welly isn't a place you'd expect to find a "superstar". Its name implies somewhere you'd only really want to step into when it's raining; coloured plastic glasses have the effect of making the lager look blue. Of course, Har Mar isn't really a Superstar just yet, but the former Harold Martin Tillman is greeted with the kind of cheering reserved for England victories and strippers. It's not an inappropriate comparison. Not a man to let the fact that he is balding and overweight get in the way of showbiz, Har Mar bares his paunch in a tassled jacket which hangs over pyjama trousers, giving the appearance of a skirt.
For Elephant Rock he removes his jacket - presumably for illustrative purposes. People could start sweepstakes on the exact number of seconds it takes him to bare his bottom. His routine is expertly tweaked to cater for inebriated hordes. Within 20 seconds we're asked to shout "Oh yeah," and respond to a call of "I am so sexy."

With his thinning thatch diminishing further with sweat, he looks like a demented stockbroker. However, musically he's too often caught with his pants down as successive pastiches of 70s disco form a pallid backdrop. Although he's certainly a trouper, there's a point where you realise that if you strip away the irony, Har Mar is little different from the numerous Sam Fox/male stripper/wet T-shirt ritual humiliation turns served up in clubs like the Welly. His peers are not musical but blokes who, after nine pints, prance around in their undies and attempt karaoke. Not wishing to do any seasoned performer a disservice, they generally have better songs.

· At Stealth, Nottingham (0115-958 8484), tonight. Then touring.

It could very well have a track listing like:

Time to Kill
Price of Love
Lazy Day
Dandelion Wine
2x4
Better Get Right Little Darlin' (or whatever it's called)
Polly
Dangerous Crossing
Long Black Veil
Tears a Go Go
and the amazing Louisiana

But what do I know? I'm just a Shithead.

Playin' the hell out of the drums is our own Peace o'Shit.
He's always done well, seeing as how he's a Thomas.
Peace o' is the 11th child of Warren Thomas and Allie
Mae Peterskill. Warren Thomas comes from the very
wealthy Thomas family of the famous Thomas the Tank
Engine Railway Line. Warren took his substantial trust
fund and invested part of it into the great Silver Crush of
Cocktotin' in the late 50's. His fortune tripled in just six
months. He met his future bride-to-be Allie Mae at the
Annual Coctotin' Ice Cream Social at the old Veteran's
hall. Allie Mae was raised right and proper by the
Peterskill's a family that had just moved to Cocktotin'
from Texas. She has long been a quilter of fine quilts
for ladies of means. Peace o'Shit is the youngest child
of the family and has always made sure that he takes
good care of his mama. He has six brothers, Mitchell,
Eddie, Don, Patrick, Nick, David and four sisters,
Emmylou, Vonda, Lucinda and Nancy.
