ElVez

Why does it seem that I never have enough time to do all the things I need to do? Even when I get some free time it seems that some unexpected crisis comes up to snatch it away from me. :?

No worries, you have several options in front of you....

1. You can deal with it.
2. You can get over it.
3. You can live with it.
4. You can embark on a disastrous affair with the bass player from Saves The Day.
5. Two words: Tuscany, baby!

I don't think you are overly interested in endearing yourself to one and all. I am sure you have plenty of people in your everyday life who dig you so your self-image shouldn't be hard-wired to this board. My perception of you is that you like being a little bit of a provocateur, which is fine. You could do much worse than join the ranks of ARL, DraperDan/Mr. Average/Twisted Steel & Sex Appeal: The Vanilla Fantasy and Copenhagen Fan. At least they're not boring. Being a few years older than you, I can see where you're at right now and it is just something you have to go through. There is nothing special or unique about it other than how you choose to conduct yourself while going through this phase in life.

A good friend of mine said something to me that has stuck and that you should really take to heart. Self-destructive, adolescent male behavior is never as interesting to outside observers as it is to those going through it. Basically, don't burn any bridges just to watch them go up in smoke and you should be fine.

Dear El Vez,

Ever since I've started taking aerobic kickboxing classes, I've been having uncharacteristically violent urges. Sometimes I wonder if I could break the nose of the person I'm talking to. Anyway, how does one use an eyelash curler? Are my eyelashes just way too short?

Kickboxing classes? You're intimidating enough as it is! Seriously, I shudder to think how you could tear someone like me to shreds with a few well-timed, perfectly observed bon mots if you chose to do so.

I would never presume to tell a woman that she has too much or too little of anything on her body. Except maybe barbeque sauce. However, I will say that I am a complete mark for Revlon's Tweezerman SPA Super Curl Lash Curler. It's sleek and stylish design is easy on the eyes (yuk yuk) and at $4.95 easy on the pocketbook without being a lemon.

Dear El Vez,

Did my neighbor REALLY find a copperhead in her yard, or is she just trying to scare the hell out of me?

Experience (and an outrageously high insurance premium) has taught me that it is best to err on the side of caution when it comes to snakes, sharks, R. Kelly and electric fences. Stay inside, take some bennies, host an Ed Harris movie marathon, put out some chips....whatever it takes.

Dear El Vez:

Should i sign up for Netflix now, before i've discontinued my cable tv service? Angel only has a couple more episodes, then cable is going outta my house. If i sign up now i get two free weeks, but do i need them? Prices go up mid June anyway, to $22 from $20.

What to do? now, or wait? I do so love instant gratification, but i will abide by your decision. I think.

thanks, your poppet.

Newcastle have a double fixture for gameweek 37 out of the season total 38 of Fantasy Football. Do I buy Shearer and make him captain for that gameweek? Although Henry had a quiet game against Brum, how will I maintain my position at the top of my work table if he goes mental away to Fulham (remember that the Gooners have an unbeaten since March '03 reputation to maintain and so already having won the league doesn't affect things much) and nets loads of points for those who maintain him as captain?

NB the £40 I stand to win for coming top will make my conscience infinitely clearer regarding the £42 I've spent this weekend on music.

I understand and appreciate the need for abbreviation, for example: LJ = Lapinsjolis. But I am troubled by this sort of thing:

verbal gymnastics wrote: The show contained some new songs... He also threw in some gems such as ... New Amsterdam/YGTHYLA....

I have no idea what he's talking about, and my options are to scour the thread for clues (too time consuming), ask directly in the thread (but everyone else seems to know what song he means), or ask in a private message (too much of an imposition).

I would never say "My favorite song is HIAYHYH" and leave it at that; even a few words spelled out fully would be helpful: "Home is Anywhere."

Am I being unduly puristic? El Vez, I rely on your good heart and wise perspective.

As a recent Netflix convert, this is one that is close to my heart. There are no decent video stores where I live and if I do feel up to slumming it at Blockbuster it's going to cost me $10 just to rent two movies that I'm not even all that interested in to begin with. So joining Netflix makes a lot of sense for someone in my position. Even at $22 a month, it pays for itself when I get my second batch of DVD's. Also, the selection is superior to that of the vapid chain stores I'm saddled with. The customer/film critic reviews are fun to read and can often help when you are browsing for something unfamiliar.

I will say that I am a little disenchanted with the speediness (or lack thereof) of their delivery. Waiting three days for your next movie can be a bit of a buzzkill. A few times I've even cheated and rented from Movie Gallery just to get a quick fix from the new release section. Also, I don't think that they read the comment boxes on the disc slip. Last week I received Q: The Winged Serpent and the last twenty minutes of it skipped so badly that I was forced to give up trying to watch the movie. I was pissed so I checked the "Unplayable" and "Please Send Another Copy" boxes and sent it back. Instead of getting another copy of Larry Cohen's opus, they sent me the next film on my queue which was the Criterion edition of the original Insomnia.

If you have a good video store near your house and/or rental prices are reasonable then I would hold off. If you are in the same boat I am, lousy selection and exorbitant prices, then you should definitely give it a try ASAP.

I'm probably not the guy you want to ask this question to. I've had highly enjoyable conversations with fellow Dylan fans that consisted of nothing but variations of "TUIB....03/93 at Hammersmith, wow!" I've done that for HOURS at a time.

If a particular song has already been mentioned in the post or the one preceding it then I don't find it bothersome to refer to Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again or (What's So Funny 'Bout)Peace, Love & Understanding as SIMWMB or (WSF)PLU. However, I don't think it's a good idea to always assume that everyone else knows exactly which RSHLLO you're talking about.

Considering how much booze you and Mrs. Spooky can put away, I can see how it might be amusing to watch when bombed out of your mind. As for me, I am a lifelong cat hater so that website has about as much appeal as the sequel to Baby Geniuses.

Dear Oily,

Juliette Lewis slept with Brad Pitt. Julianne Moore slept with me.
