What are you listening to right now?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Not yet. How is it?
Pop goodness. Took me a few listens to absorb it, but it's one of their best.

You have to get it as an import though MBA. No North American release currently planned. You might try CD Wow.

I think my question about this got buried in the general 'Why people should like Bill' discussion. This bonus live CD you only get if you happen to live in America - is it any good?

By no means essential, but it's a very nice bonus. It's a live performance from Wellington, NZ in 1987. Setlist is:

Ever Fallen In Love
The Milkman Of Human Kindness
Scholarship Is The Enemy Of Romance
Greetings To The New Brunette
Help Save The Youth Of America
Levi Stubbs' Tears
Ideology
The Saturday Boy
The Warmest Room
Days Like These
To Have And To Have Not
Between The Wars
A New England

The Pernice Brothers - Live A Little (thanks to WSS).

I love this album.

I've also noticed that my friend works for their distribution company so I'm on the scrounge again!

Good to hear you're hooked verbal. If you're thinking about picking up more of their stuff, I would go in this order:

Overcome by Happiness
Yours, Mine And Ours
The World Won't End
Discover A Lovelier You

I might actually put the Scud Mountain Boys's album Massachusetts ahead of DALY.

Observer Music Monthly gave Jarvis a 5 star rave rating.

I'm playing a Beck compilation a friend gave me who's a big enthusiast (in return for the Tower of Ron, now updated to include 4 songs from 'Time Being'!).

Always admired Beck from a distance but never really got stuck in, other than a tape of Odelay from years ago. He's building up a very interesting catalogue though, I agree. This comp has 20 tracks, 12 of which are from the last 3 records. Is The Information a homage to Martin Amis?

The Who - Endless Wire

I can't face posting that terrible, terrible artwork. Surprisingly good record, mind. Really well mixed.

I just picked Endless Wire too. The artwork is appallingly bad......colors and graphics straight off of some lame 1983 "new wave" album. I haven't listened to the album all the way through yet, but it sounds pretty good so far. Better than expected.

Pernice Brothers - Live a Little (more thanks to WSS)
Sounds great so far. How can you go wrong with a song like "Grudge F***" ?

Booze soaked, cocaine addled Elton was rockin. Also contains one of his best ever ballady things - "I Feel Like A Bullet (In The Gun Of Robert Ford)"

Wow. Holy time warp, Batman. That was the last EJ record I bought on vinyl, i.e., not 20 years later on CD. Will have to revisit it; doubtless I'll remember every fucking breath and syllable, as I seem to with all music I listened to at that age.

Yeah, its funny how that works. I think maybe I listened to less artists more often, and maybe when your a teenager it sinks in more, or you concentrate more, younger, fresher ears I guess. But also the quality of production of the recordings of that era is awesome. Those records just SOUND so great. Gus Dudgeon, for instance, was one of the greatest producers ever.
