Top Ten Albums Ever

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Top Ten Albums Ever

Post by El Vez »

I'm stealing from So Lacklustre's E.C. tracks thread here. No greatest hits compilations or box sets, except for individual, pre-Beatles artists.....most of their best work is only available on collections. No soundtracks. Other than that, same rules and point structure apply.

1. Hank Williams as Luke The Drifter, Hank Williams, Sr.
2. John Wesley Harding, Bob Dylan
3. The Complete 1928 Okeh Recordings, Mississippi John Hurt
4. Good Old Boys, Randy Newman
5. The Definitive Charley Patton, Charley Patton
6. Bone Machine, Tom Waits
7. Imperial Bedroom, E.C. & The Attractions
8. Time (The Revelator), Gillian Welch & David Rawlings
9. Life'll Kill Ya, Warren Zevon
10. The Missing Years, John Prine

For once I need to think about it for a while. I could give my automatic list beginning with The Beatles White Album but I don't think it's accurate anymore.

I will get back to this.

My musical education, thanks to a fairly whacked-out religious upbringing, is full of holes. I know very little of the Beatles, early Dylan, Bowie, the Who, Kinks -- you name, it, my parents probably banned it, or would have if I'd even known it existed. Somehow ABBA slipped through, but that's about it, in terms of quality. ALL THIS TO SAY, this list is a top ten based in my own explorations and may not meet any remotely objective standard of "greatness."

I guess these are always ultimately highly personal anyway. ANYWAY:

Radiohead - OK Computer
Los Lobos - Kiko
Cafe Tacuba - Reves/Yosoy
Bob Dylan - Love and Theft
Greg Brown - Further In (are there ANY Greg fans on this board?!)
White Stripes - Elephant
Billy Bragg and Wilco - Mermaid Avenue Vol 1
EC - King of America (huh.)
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Arvo Part, composer - Te Deum (I'm agnostic at best now, but if anything were to tempt me back to some form of belief, it would be Part's music)

oh, i hate this kind of thing. because i always put albums on that i think *should* be there, rather than the albums i really want to put on. you know? like i automatically stuff on so i seem like i have Good Taste.

so, i just don't post lists like this. bwarfg3.
if we can rock together, why can't we walk together?

KoC- My girlfriend and I are Greg Brown fans. In fact, she was the one who really turned me on to him. We've got Slant 6 Mind, Over & Under, One Night and the excellent Going Driftless tribute album. Great, great stuff.

Wow, this is gonna be hard. Keep in mind that, like Blue Chair, these choices are just what I'm writing down at the moment. Ten isn't enough!

Not in order:

1. Songs in the Key of Life--Stevie Wonder
2. Give a Monkey a Brain and He'll Swear He's the Center of the Universe--Fishbone
3. Bitter--Me'shell N'degeocello
4. Mistaken Identity--Vernon Reid
5. Voodoo--D'Angelo
6. Funkify Your Life--The Meters
7. Imperial Bedroom--EC
8. Adventures in Hi-Fi--R.E.M.
9. Two Against Nature--Steely Dan
10. Dark Side of the Moon--Pink Floyd
If there's one thing you can say about mankind--there's nothing kind about man
