A sonnet, serious and silly

Post by A rope leash »

Huddle close, and fear I tread
in the black behind you, or in front
the facts you discover when you are dead
that bear the truth and end the hunt
is not known here nor could be
is not for the realm of the walking
is not for eyes to see
for all that depth, or all that talking
Eternity stinks my darling, and that's the joke
fear I tread, and huddle close
Holy Unknown and Blessed Yoke
not funny, not new, and not morose

But if near the grave you find no umbrella,
Just ask for "God", or "Elvis Costella"

Can you imagine coming back as bacteria? How bad do you have to be for that?!

The "eternity stinks" thing comes from The Juliet Letters. Sounds like you didn't know...

It's another clue to Elvis' agnostic bent, in my view...and I equate Elvis with God because I'm starting to believe that it's okay to worship certain human beings.

At least they are verifiably real.

Nope I didnt buy the Juliet letters - heard a couple of tracks and thought no way - not for me! I was glad when Elvis got back on track I feared he was going to go a long way down that road!
