I Lived in Memphis when Jeff Buckley Died

Post by pophead2k »

I'm starting recording of a new album on Saturday. Its strictly a one-man show with a little help here and there. All of the songs are about New Orleans (both covers and originals) or at the very least speak to me about my New Orleans. Anyway, here's a set of lyrics for the first song:

I Lived in Memphis When Jeff Buckley Died
I lived in Memphis when Jeff Buckley died
Almost as pointless as a virgin suicide
And that’s one man who did not have to die
I lived in Memphis when Jeff Buckley died

I lived in Washington when the mountain fell
No badge of courage, just something I can tell
And Harry Truman, I guess he chose to die
I lived in Washington when the mountain fell

And it’s a matter of circumstance
It’s how we mark where we land
And every person has a story they can tell
That they will never understand

I lived in New Orleans when the levees broke
The so-called leaders pathetic when they spoke
And all those people they did not have to die
I lived in New Orleans when the levees broke

OK. That was pretty cool. Any chance we'll get to hear the finished product?

I remember vividly finding out about Jeff Buckley. All week long the news reports were filled with stories about Bob Dylan's heart scare. Then Jeff was reported missing, and a week later the worst was confirmed. Losing Bob would have been very sad, but losing Jeff was a tragedy. Truly.

Thanks for sharing.

This song can now be heard at http://www.myspace.com/popheaddave

I'm just now getting this myspace page up and running, but I'll be regularly posting songs there if anyone's interested.

Pophead, that's a very good song. Congratulations !
Don't know if this would be a compliment to you, but if I hadn't known I would have said it's John Wesley Harding.
If you don't know what is wrong with me
Then you don't know what you've missed

Well of course that's a compliment! He's obviously an influence on the stuff I do and he's a sweet, sweet guy to boot. Thanks for the kind words.

And what might he have produced in it?
