Crash song

Post by crash8_durham »

I have had some nice response to this one so I thought I would post it. This one was written soon after my class reunion last year

September
Mark Clay 2004

Pulled into town today
After 20 years away
Look how this little place has grown
New homes are all around
New shops put up downtown
Replaced the one my father used to own
But there's still a Friday football game
Some things are still the same
And it starts to feel a little more like home
Cold winds, old friends in the stands
Smiles and hugs and shaking hands
And old familiar faces that I've known

And I fall back and remember
Every new September
Years brush the saddest parts away
And my memories all surrender
Old days in their splendor
Times change, who am I to say
But I remember it that way

Looking hard into the eyes
Kind of hard to recognize
The face I haven't seen in 20 years
Then we start to talk about
Friday nights and hanging out
And what became of some of our old peers
Then I slip away and wander down
The halls to take a look around
It feels as I have drifted back in time
Rooms and lockers look the same
The faces and the names have change
I'm hearing familiar voices in my mind

And I fall back and remember
Every new September
Years brush the saddest parts away
And my memeories all surrender
Old days in their splendor
Times change, who am I to say
But I remember it that way

I read about the teams and champions in the trophy case
Then I hear a quiet voice that makes me lose my place

I turn and see the girl
I loved back in that other world
And I must admit I wondered if she'd come
We embrace and share a smile
And laugh and talk a little while
And trade pictures of my daughter and her son
And it all comes rushing back again
Thinking of what might have been
If the things had happened differently that fall
I guess we both did what was best
And history surely would attest
We've made the right desisions after all

And I fall back and remember
Every new September
And how we drifted away
And my memories all surrender
Old days in their splendor
We're so different here today
But I remember it that way

Are you saying I was trying to rip off Jimmy Buffett?

Jimmy who?

No, I'm just saying that's what a good country song always does for me...

...sometimes one will make me want to do it in the road, as well.

My song is number 8 on the acoustic top 25 on 15megsoffame.com

Not a big deal, I know, but it looks cool to me

:D
