Off White Wedding

Post by pophead2k »

This is a traditional country song that uses the regular 'cowboy chords'- C, F, G, and an Am once in awhile for good measure. I was thinking about George Jones or Dwight Yoakam.

OFF WHITE WEDDING

The preacher swore in Spanish as he dropped the Holy book
Somehow he still managed and that was all it took
My beloved looked distracted and I was a little drunk
Thinking about our prospects and the whiskey in my trunk

It was an off white wedding
Second time around
I'm not the man she dreamt of
I'm the man she found

The traffic was a nightmare on the way to Crater Lake
We argued over sandwiches about which route to take
We checked into a motel that smelled like someone's aunt
She fell asleep to Oprah while I drank in the restaurant

It was an off white wedding
Second time around
I'm not the man she dreamt of
I'm the man she found

She picked at enchiladas, I had pepper steak
Silent in our wedded bliss and nuptial mistake
But late that night I held her under naked stars
And I swear to God I loved her more than whiskey
or guitars

i like the chorus and final verse very much!

though i'm not sure about all the conversation re: food. just seems odd.

but then, i'm odd, so i'm not complaining.

Doesn't sound like a nuptual mistake to me!

This is a great little story, well told. I like it quite a lot.

Thanks ladies for the feedback and kind words. Poppet, the 'pepper steak' reference is a little nod to one of my favorite songs by Camper Van Beethoven, "All Her Favorite Fruit" which has a similar preoccupation with food.
