Is Imperial Bedroom the greatest EC Masterpiece ??

Post by Jackson Doofster »

Ok. So ImpBed won the Elvis Cup. Apart from a tough semi-final against the mighty TYM, ImpBed strolled it really. So, do you agree that it is THE great Elvis album by which all others are judged etc

No, in my opinion.

I think it´s more an interesting experiment.

I miss Elvis roaring a little bit throughout the album (specially when he sings Human Hands).

No.
It is certainly a masterpiece.
I remember being disappointed when I bought it on initial release but it grows and grows on you over time. I love it now and never skip a track, my favourite tracks being the last two, You Little Fool and Town Cryer.
Personally I prefer Punch The Clock, King Of America and Spike.
Almost all of Elvis' albums are masterpieces, but I could never include Goodbye Cruel World, Kojak Variety and Painted From Memory as such, but I have warmed a little bit to the latter recently. :D

No, I´m not.

I said IT WAS MY OPINION. I think the album is overarranged, it sounds to me very much like Elvis trying to be poppy, Elvis trying to make Abbey Road again (and I love Beatles, by the way). But it´s just an personal opinion. I prefer a more natural sound, and, talking about Costello, I don´t care if that naturality comes from a r´n´r band or a string quartet...

I insist: it´s just my opinion.
Leave the whores alone (though it´s friday).

I wanted to vote for "no" and "I hate EC..." because right this minute I hate everybody except Goody2. But Trust is the masterpiece.
Like me, the "g" is silent.

Jackson: Quit teasing the newbie.

ms. swung: You can't hate me; I sent you a letter yesterday! Sure, it's a bit of a downer, but still, hardly deserving of your hatred.

Thanks, I think.

And, yes, it is a masterpiece. Not my favorite, however.

Jackson, here you go again trying to mess with my mind. I love IB, but I believe it's the album that everyone compares all of his other albums to, not necessarily his greatest masterpiece though. It's all a matter of personal preference really.

Just this gal's opinion. Still, a great album though.

Jawol...es ist sehr gut!!!!!

It's the 'missing link' between modern-day classic Elvis and retrobeat Elvis.

I called my copy Lucy.

I voted No. It's not one of my favorites. I think it's overproduced.

I agree w/ Gilli...TYM and "Get Happy" are still better albums, IMHO.

But, c'mon guys...we should ALL be able to express our opinions here without fear of reprisal.

KoS, keep 'em coming!!

I dunno... I think I'd rank This Year's Model at around Elvis's 5th or 6th best album. But that's just me :D

It's good stuff, but not EC's greatest masterpiece...
It nearly took a mircacle to get you to stay
It only took my little finger to blow you away.
