Martin Belmont of Graham Parker and the Rumour fame. He was stitting in for Steve who was recovering after a car accident during 1980 summer.

Thanks for that, krm. So, as i can hear a keyboard there, was this mimed? Would kind of defeat the purpose of having Belmont there.

EC and the boys were always VERY SILLY and/or VERY WASTED in these days (or both!), ESPECIALLY for these types of TOPS OF THE POPS lip-sync appearances. who can blame them? they approached this stuff the RIGHT way!! ALWAYS giving us a laugh or THREE.

It was just the band he happened to have at the time. Steve wasn't available and EC apparently didn't think "maybe a different keyboard player should be drafted in to mime this one".
