Fan meet up, London , March 9th '13

Post by johnfoyle »

A longtime EC fan from Australia , Dave Hyland, is going to be in the UK in March. He's wondering if he could meet-up with some us, suggesting March 9th. I can make it. How about anyone else?

Great!

I've booked a flight for that day so I'll be there no matter what.

Is there a venue for this, or are we just going to randomly bump into each other on the street? It's 2 weeks from today. :)

The Garrick pub, Charing Cross Road is our usual meet-up point - that seems just as good as any this time also. More specific details will be suggested closer to the day.

If, of course, only a few of us can make it , something like this might do ( thought I'd get it in before someone else does!) -

The above photo is from the time before last when the "gang" met up. VG is going through my jacket trying to find the elusive Elvis sings the Beatles CD, John is trying to remember the time of his flight back to Dublin, SoLack is scratching his head wondering how come he's spent £80 on two rounds of drinks in London and MOOT can be seen skipping playfully down the road with his manbag full of bootleg live recordings ! (this isn't strictly true by the way !)

Excellent post Sulky me-laddo. Where is that Elvis sings The Beatle CD anyway?

Is there really a black telephone box outside the pub as in the picture? I must always be too drunk to notice

Just realised looking at the Ron Sexsmith forum that the AussieDave there must be one and the same. Attending Ron's historic appearance at the Royal Albert Hall this Thursday, which is apparently his 40th birthday. Great way to spend it! haven't been to the RAH since that memorable night when Steve Nieve played the organ on Favourite Hour back in '94. Golly, nearly 20 years!

Yep. I was planning an overseas trip for my 40th, but was thinking more along the lines of a Vietnam adventure or something. Then Ron announced this concert and that sealed the deal.

Looking forward to meeting you at the Garrick Arms on the 9th, and also anyone who'll be seeing Ron at the Royal Albert Hall on the 7th.

Loving London so far.

I've booked for the new exhibition at the National Gallery - Federico Barocci - for 12.30 . That should take about a hour so I , for one, will be in the Garrick from two onwards.

That sounds like a great exhibition. Most non-specialised folk had never heard of him before this. Don't suppose you're nipping over for the RAH Ron show too, John? I'm wondering if it's Ron's biggest ever headlining gig.

Aussiedave, can't think of a better way to spend one's 40th than travelling across the planet to see the master. I've been obsessing over Former Glory all week given that he played it in Belfast. Vietnam can wait.

If it's not his biggest ever headlining gig, I'm sure it's still a massive career highlight for him. I'm really happy for Ron that this gig is happening. I hope it's as good for him as it will be for us.
