My view entirely, PD., I couldn't agree more, After TJL there seemed to be an awful tendency to over-sing with way too much vibrato, particularly when crooning. The vocal delights of SP&S and NR at last gave us the best of his voice - and, I assume he's picked up on an awful lot of vocal tricks and mannerisms over the years but he's never given the appearance of "not trying" or "Going Through The Motion"s (I knew I'd be able to fit that one in somewhere ! )

While we're talking about Elvis' voice breaking, my favorite is on the alternate 'You'll Never Be A Man', where his voice practically explodes in the middle of the second chorus, during "foreign bodies"; it sounds more like "f*AHRR*eign" than "foreign".

You hear it on Blood and Chocolate too. On "I Want You" not only does his voice catch but he also later messes up a line - "I know I''m going to feel this way until you kill it".

It's all about the vibe of the thing ... besides, sometimes having a moment that's slightly "wrong" in a song makes it more memorable.

So I hear. Good article? Dorian Lynskey is normally good. Is he hearing a 'future classic'?

The Mojo feature is a good primer for the new album. There's nothing terribly new in it. I'm not posting the text of it for the moment - give the publishers a bit of chance to sell it. Small images of the layout are here - http://www.elviscostello.info/wiki/inde ... ember_2013

Thank you for not posting the text, actually.

I know I would be too tempted to just read it and I'd kind of like the pleasure of buying an issue (when they hit NYC newsstands on import) and enjoying it.

Reading Q and MOJO and Musician magazine articles on new EC albums was one of the great pleasures of being a fan in the 90s... I miss that!

Sorry but I disagree. I am very much in the "in the not very distant future, where everything will be free" bandcamp. Come on, post it!

I am still not there yet with the new single but it is growing on me. From the first few listens I've almost resigned myself to the likelihood that I won't like the album in the same way as I'm not a big fan of the other collaborations.

Dave on Facebook comments -

There are a couple of interesting titbits. EC suggesting that the band were thinking of re-locating to Austin back in 1978 in order to break America and naming The Central Club in Blackpool as the first gig that he played with his Dad.The biggest shock however was the discovery that Questlove Thompson is the son of Lee Andrews, a doo-wop singer from the 1950's who had hits with "Long Lonely Nights" and others. Anybody else know this?

Questlove interview with Nardwuar brings this up around 5.50 into the clip. Published in 2008. 110 000 views. I guess it is well known, but not in our circles....

Have you considered hypnotherapy?

Sounds like a bad case of CCAD (Costello Collaboration Aversion Disorder).

Only thing is, Amazon UK is showing 3 x import CD with cover image, and then non-import, no cover, £25.57. WTF?
amazon UK has now a UK version: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wise-Ghost-Elvi ... s+costello

It's not clear yet if it contains the bonustracks.

At last! And of course we get it a day earlier than US, though interestingly we both get Bleeding Edge on the 17th. So for us it's albums Monday books Tuesday (or any day, I think), and for the US it's Tuesday all the way.

P.S. Has anyone noticed the two ENORMOUS continuity errors in the video? Hilarious! They must have been deliberate, surely?!

I'm taking the costume change as one continuity error - shirt, hat and glasses (clear lenses at first, sunglasses in the next).

But have you spotted the other?

Apologies if this seems like I'm glorying in my good fortune but I have to tell people here OR I'LL BURST - yes, I just got the new album! Don't anyone even think of asking for a copy - it just can't be done.

More later - have to listen it again!

Typical, everyone dying to hear the new album and some part time fan who only turns up for the odd Costello gig and ignores my wonderful scrapbook collection gets first listen - and it's not just because he's known as MC Foiybles in the Hip- Hop parlours of downtown Dublin !!!
Hope it's good for you, John .

Not jealous in the least- if someone is going to get a preview it should be an 'acolyte' such as yourself. 8) I am curious if his lyric line elongates as I[and you] speculated earlier in this thread. 9/17 is clearly marked upon the calendar.
"....there's a merry song that starts in 'I' and ends in 'You', as many famous pop songs do....'
