Party party
From late 1982, UK television show. Mimed (?) to a different version than the released single:

I confess to rather enjoying that!
What programme was that from?
The track is different (superior?) to the single release. Sudden ending rather than fade much better.

This version really rocks! I like it too! Much better than the official release.

Re: Party party
Thank you for sharing that- I had forgotten how infectious it is- suddenly remembered that I had that single all those years ago- only to lose it when loaned to a friend. As PD has noted on the 'At the Movies' thread it is a definite shame that it was omitted from that collection- that band had a most infectious sound at that time- the concerts around that time have always stayed fresh and vibrant in my aural memory.

I agree fully. I spent my sunday playing through the old VHS tapes and the songs from that era is really catchy. check out these ones from UK TV 1983 - The Switch

Re: Party party
EC's whole attack on 'Party Party' is dumb. It's a perfectly affable pop throwaway. As somebody - I'm sorry for forgetting who - pointed out, his loathing of it might be a bit of amused self-promotion and -mythologization ('THIS IS EC'S WORST SONG!!'); if not this, then I take it as another manifestation of his tendency toward egoistic melodrama.

Those are great, indeed. Especially Charm School, a "hidden classic", IMO.krm wrote:I agree fully. I spent my sunday playing through the old VHS tapes and the songs from that era is really catchy. check out these ones from UK TV 1983 - The Switch

Itv's afternoon show, I think. It's followed by an interview and EC on a discussion panel.John wrote:I confess to rather enjoying that!

Re: Party party
I love Party, Party, and am baffled at Elvis's dislike of it. If he'd allowed it onto his greatest hit package years ago, it'd now be a lot better known and played at a lot more parties. It's a great lyric about the chaotic shambles of house parties, a bit like St Stephen's Day Murders and The World and His Wife - a comical knees-up!
He's probably a little embarrassed by the lyrics - 'a face like last week's cornflakes' - but who cares? As someone else said, it's a great pop quickie in which the lyrics don't have to be taken that seriously (and they're actually quite funny, I think!)
Right, I'm gonna watch this clip, now

I never really liked Charm School, but I liked that too. Maybe because it reminds me of the Revolver tour now.docinwestchester wrote:Those are great, indeed. Re: Party party
On the subject of 'Party Party', something I always meant to look up but never got around to...what the hell are 'Wednesday legs'? I mean, from the line in the song, I always figured that 'Wednesday legs' must be a famous figure-of-speech. But obviously not that famous, since I never heard it used outside of this lyric. Thoughts, anyone?
PS If it's something really rude, I probably don't want the specifics...

A phrase used to describe a really attractive pair of legs on a woman, so that the woman who is being described does not know that you are talking about her legs (i.e. it is a code system).
More specifically, this is used to rate legs in a covert way - the rating system running from Sunday to Saturday, with "Sunday legs" being too thin and "Saturday legs" being too fat - hence "Wednesday legs" (the mid-point of the week) are just right.
N.B. When rating legs it is important to note that no two pairs of wednesday legs will ever be the same - there is no preset size or dimensions, it is simply how the legs are in proportion to the woman.
(Attractive woman in front)
Man 1: Look at those wednesday's!
Man 2: I dunno, they look more like mid-tuesday's to me...
(Attractive woman walks away, out of earshot)
Man 1: She had some damn nice wednesday legs.

Wow, that's interesting stuff. Never came across that before, I have to say.docinwestchester wrote:http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.p ... day%20legsHawksmoor wrote:On the subject of 'Party Party', something I always meant to look up but never got around to...what the hell are 'Wednesday legs'?
