Elvis in new Mojo ( Nov. issue)

Post by johnfoyle »

Elvis is in the new issue of Mojo -
see
http://www.mojo4music.com/html/mojo_new_issue.shtml

at 71 in a poll of musical happenings - or as
their site states -

THE POLL OF POLLS
Your votes counted! It's the MOJO Hall Of Fame,
featuring new interviews with the likes of AC/DC,
Public Enemy, The Velvet Underground, The Byrds, Neil
Young and more!

Elvis appears `cos - in a `World Changing
Moment` " Oliver`s Army enters the UK charts at
Number 2 - February 10 , 1979 ".

The accompanying short text by Andrew Male
tell`s the usual tale about Elvis c.1979 , concluding
` Number 2 in the pop charts? No , it couldn`t happen
now , and there`s a good chance that every indie
hopeful with pop nous since ( The Smiths , Guided By
Voices , The Strokes etc) has this moment as a
reference point.`

There then follows a short interview with
Elvis . He tells the usual tales - Belfast `78 , Abba
piano part etc. In the answer to final question `Do
you ever look back at that guy (E.C. `79)? he replies
` I , of course , never do that. Well , he was very
confident , bordering on arrogance , and probably
deeply insecure which you`re covering up by being
aggressive.....There were plenty of lippy people
around then , like Geldof , who was a great frontman
and had some great good tunes , but he couldn`t sing .
I remember Pete Thomas saying , " You can`t leave it
all to the Boomtown Rats . You can`t let them win."

The half page feature is accompanied by a
Elvis `n The Attractions photo c.1979 , the one with
`Attractions for rent` sign in the backround.

-------------------------------------------------------

The magazine is shrinkwrapped with a CD
which I , as a retailer , find so annoying. Such
sealed presentation of publications affects sales.
The regular reader will get the issue `cos they know
what it`s all about ; the casual reader will not `cos
they can`t see what`s in it. It`s as simple as that .
Just thought I`d inflict that gripe on you.

Hey John, cheers.

Good point you make bout the wrapped issue...I have to say, that if I was in WH Schmidts or a John Menzies, I'd open the mag up, as it's one of your consumer rights, but I'd never do it in a little newsie cos you can send the ones back you don't sell right.

As I don't read Mojo regular, has EC ever been in that article they do about Ten Essential 'artist' records. That's always a good bit of their mag, just wondered if they had him in it ever...

I saw they put GCW in 'Beware of the Dog' section once. :(
