It's not the days when you leave me, but all I fear are the nights.

Then I'm late on the boat too, that version sounds great. There must be recordings of solo gigs in EC's archive that would make a good release, or two.

Hey, that's neat. Love the chords. This certainly suggests the song can hold its own as a guitar-driven number, severed from the bizarre treatment it got on Spike.
That being said, the Spike version is great fun too. It sounds like some sort of demented steam-powered contraption.
This is one of EC's most discomfitingly vulgar songs, incidentally, what with the cringy 'bang-kok' pun and the classic crack about the 'something' that 'always comes between them.' Ick.

Thanks for that WIWC. It's a very sharp live version, I love it!
Re: Felt like sharing this
The man knows his song, naked or dressed for the ball.
This version is interesting, it's so bare and breathes so large but the released version from Spike is "MASSIVE".
The funk generated by The Dirty Dozen Brass Band is infectious, the vocal interplay, the clanging pipe.
I played it a half a dozen times at very loud volume in the car last week, wish I had pictures of the people in the other cars stopped at red lights, you could read it on their faces, what the fuck is he listening to?
