Elvis and the Imposters play Clearwater, FL, April 24, 2012

Post by Man out of Time »

We have at least one forum contributor attending this rescheduled show.

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/soundchec ... t-april-24

We also have this blogger, who John Foyle found some time ago.

Any others planning to make it to Clearwater for this show?

I think I know that guy... It's me! I did the blog thing as a lark to keep me going through buyouts and other shitty things at work until next week. I can't wait. I'm taking a recent EC convert who has a very small idea of what the show will be like and I'm having trouble not divulging anything. I'd like to see him be surprised.

Glad you'll be there for us StrangerintheHouse.

If you can share the setlist with the forum afterwards, everyone will be suitably grateful. Similarly for any concert photos, particularly photos of the wheel itself, or marquee shots or images of memorabilia (tickets etc) you can contribute. The basic rule seems to be to omit no detail, no matter how trivial. We look forward to your report.

I'll be there, too. My 5th and final(?) wheel show. Hope to send updates to Twitter throughout the show, as I did for Seattle and Portland.

Craig has posted a picture of the wheel: http://twitpic.com/9didy3/full

The only visible changes from last night are that "Accidents Will Happen" and "So Like Candy" have been replaced by "Oliver's Army" and "Monkey To Man."

Just go home from the concert. It was fantastic even though the audience sat down for most of it. Still Costello was in fine form. I can't think of any other songs from the ones mentioned above so Craig's list seems about right.

One Bell Ringing was with the full band and it was amazing. The Imposters seemed to add a more thunderous tone to the songs. It was quit a highlight.

I think I'm Your Toy was the only cover of the night (besides PLU) and it was gorgeous, followed by an impromptu Shipbuilding.

I listened to part of my recording on the way home and it sounded pretty good. I won't be able to upload until Thursday but I'll try to get One Bell Ringing and I'm Your Toy up in the morning as well as photos.

There's a lot more to tell but I'm about to fall asleep. On to Hollywood tomorrow.

Am I missing something here? How does "Watch Your Step" fit in the "Numbers" category? Or did he nudge the wheel again

They've been playing it on the coat tails of Secondary Modern because both songs have essentially the same riff.

Oh yeah I forgot about that, it's funny when he gets mixed up and the band plays one tune and he comes in with words from the other. Heard it on a boot once. Also, I see the segue is now the other way around from the above link.

Here you go, WAVs of I'm Your Toy and One Bell Ringing.

If you have Itunes, it should automatically ask you to convert it to another format.

Costello's most rebellious maneuver, however, came during a quiet moment, as he reworked a song from the Great Depression (Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?). An assortment of loudmouths started spewing nonsense into the night, interrupting the performer. So Costello stepped away from the mike — but kept singing all the same. It was the slickest bit of crowd control I've seen. The place, select morons included, shushed in a hurry. Elvis Costello, still the coolest punk on the block.

I didn't think I would like the solo spot in the middle of the show, but it turned out to be jaw-dropping. Some dude up in the cheap seats was yelling at Elvis to sing "All You Need Is Love" for John Lennon, for some reason, but Elvis pretty much got everyone to be dead quiet by stepping off to the side and singing to the room without a mic. His voice was in perfect shape all night long, I was just floored how great he sounded.

I don't think that's quite how it happened. Elvis was beginning to sing off-Mic as he usually does on these quieter songs when the loudmouth began to yell something about "All You Need Is Love." EC just kept going, pausing a bit as the audience told the dude to shut up, who then replied "I LIKE JOHN LENNON." Eventually he quieted down and EC managed to finish out the song.

There were some bad vibes in that audience. Some lady tried to interrupt him again later and a guy in the very first row was escorted by police at one point. I saw him talk to the ushers at one point when all of a sudden they came by and snatched him up.

I was hoping the audience had been more lively but they sat down through most of the show, although they gave EC a standing ovation after each song.

After the show, me and my friend stood near the buses, behind a small chain link fence, hoping to get something signed. When he came out, my friend said something about the audience not standing up and EC just brushed off saying something about he expects it in these type of places.

Another odd thing, while I was talking to the guard near the buses, a woman snuck into the area where the buses were, through a tarp or something. The guard noticed her later and brought her back out.

He signed my copy of This Year's Model.
