top ten songs that should be on next REVOLVER leg!

Post by bronxapostle »

i was thinking, like i so often do, what are the ones that SHOULD have been revisited, but weren't. those with deep, oblique meaning that belonged to be played. here's my ten....i won't bore with a litany of "why". think them over and see if you agree. if you don't, name your own ten. include some of mine if you think i'm right. all in good clean fun till we await the next setlists that come our way. :)

01. THE IMPOSTER
02. I'M NOT ANGRY
03. NO HIDING PLACE
04. PRETTY WORDS
05. LIP SERVICE
06. GO AWAY
07. ANY KING'S SHILLING
08. SNEAKY FEELINGS
09. JACK OF ALL PARADES
10. SATELLITE

Good call on "The Imposter." "Sneaky Feelings" too--a sleeper moment on My Aim is True.

Here are a few I'd love to see--not being a close follower of Elvis setlists, I'm not sure how rare any of these are:

Do You Know What I'm Saying?
Psycho
Why Can't a Man Stand Alone?
Poor Fractured Atlas
The Name of This Thing is Not Love
Harry Worth
The Greatest Thing
Possession
Pouring Water on a Drowning Man
Toledo

1. Crimes of Paris
2. Go Away
3. Kinder Murder
4. Just a Memory
5. The Birds Will Still Be Singing
6. Two Little Hitlers
7. King Horse
8. Stations of the Cross (my new favorite song from National Ransom)
9. Charm School
10. Tears Before Bedtime

And Town Cryer should be a staple in any show.
Who put these fingerprints on my imagination?

no Kevin..you did good. a nice mix of 6-7 VERY rare with a couple that do get played only once in a blue moon. great selections. thanks for playing! :)
you also, Harry with a goodly 8-9 super rarely played!! so glad you both got the right idea about the question. maybe if E sees GO AWAY or JUST A MEMORY or any other single tune appearing on 75% of our lists, he'd appreciate our opinions and be sure to think to unearth the old gems.

Yeah, great choice with "Two Little Hitlers"--that's the crowning achievement on Armed Forces, in my opinion, tucked away for obscurity there at the end.

I wouldn't mind hearing a crack at "Senior Service" either. I've always thought that song had an endearing sense of disco cheese to it.

I would like to see the imposters doing a momofuku tour. Spice it up with some blood and chocolate tracks. And in addition to that, I do not need to hear alison or WTD.

Momofuku would have been nice. But I would have liked to see a Ransom tour with mix of Imposters, Sugarcanes and the Brodsky Quartet. I know its a stretch but just thought I'd through that out.

this is what i want also...that MOMOFUKU lp is fookin SO UNDERRATED!!! nearly every song a treasure. i too, wanted a tour proper, as that POLICE opening slot did NOT properly cut it. and dumb luck...2008 was the worst summer of my LIFE, so i even missed that opening slot. so, YES; we NEED to hear all these LIVE: song with Rose, pardon me madam, go away, hiding place, three sons, drum & bone, f & w, stella & turpentine! gangster i've seen a few times! and harry feathers i will NOT cry without!

stricttime...yes, you overdid it it; you only TRIPLED your alloted cup!!!  i know, hard to resist. but i like most of your choices. if i may add one:

BUTTON MY LIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! maybe there should be a "LIP" jackpot slot! (button, service, vogue!)

I too wish he would of toured Momofuku properly. Lots of great songs on there. Seeing things like Turpentine, Stella Hurt, and American Gangster Time pop up during the songbook tour was nice but I would of loved to of seen some proper shows for that album. I'm always excited for the tours off the new albums and feel a little bummed when they don't happen.

so way cool how many of us feel the same for MOMOFUKU! yes, the ones you mentioned were very nice to see this tour brilliant, but there are still the other 6-7 that haven't gotten played at all or often! maybe we will eventually get one of those appearances where he does complete lps. i don't usually like the concept, but with this LP as the one to be played, i'd sign on. maybe it wouldn't annoy me if they just played every song throughout the evening instead of straight through.

EC and the band DID play a series of dates (granted, only a few) in support of Momofuku, albeit nowhere near NYC. They played the album in its entirety at the Knoxville show, which I was fortunate enough to have attended.

ba, EC definitely dissed NYC and New England (and the rest of the world for that matter) for the first time by not playing a date or two in the area.

yes migdd...something was amiss that year. maybe because of all the time he spent in nyc doing the first season of spectacle. maybe because he was hanging on the west coast with them youngins that played on the lp. or maybe that horrible Police support slot took up way too much of his schedule those summer months. whether i would interpret it as an out and out dis to us, i'm not certain. i think he thought he would get back to us on a small headlining tour. so, it was rather unusual to not get at least ONE full show around the release of the lp, even if it was just one of those special club shows that are sometimes thrown our way. either way, i can't complain. we get spoiled around here. and i will put my minor bitterness away when i do get to finally add GO AWAY, SONG WITH ROSE, MY THREE SONS, PARDON ME, DRUM & BONE and NO HIDING PLACE to my archives of songs i've seen him perform live. MOMOFUKU POWER!

I suspect "Voice" is too tricky to play-- I've yet to hear a single live version that doesn't come with a fumble or two, either lyric or chords.

It's one of those songs that's so tightly fit together that one slip will screw up your pacing for the rest of the performance.

Don't know about a top 10 but a few Attractions-days tunes I'd like to hear:

King Horse
Human Touch
Different Finger
Let Them All Talk. I would just like to hear this one live at some point...probably will never happen without a horn section, I'm assuming. I've always had a soft spot for this song. Can't quite explain it. It just is.

I also would quite like to hear I Stand Accused. That would make for a great song in the middle of a set.

All The Rage (or anything from Brutal Youth really)
