Honestly, there's a lot of huffing and puffing going in this thread, isn't there? I wouldn't read anything into a half-arsed Amazon page. Elvis updates his website all the time now, and he hasn't actually mentioned this new "Super Deluxe Package" yet - nor has there been any official press release. Until it's official there's no point bellyaching about the price of a product that or may not actually exist.

I can't afford this, but so what? I'll just add it to the list of things I can't afford, which currently stretches from here to Jupiter. Thankfully, I'm not a completist, so I won't wake up drenched in sweat and weeping over the fact that I don't own another version of songs I already have. This is no different from any other artist who puts out a special edition of this or that. Really not a big deal.

Personally, I'd hold off on any outrage until we get an actual official press release with full track listing and price info.

This seems like it will be a fun release. I'd only get annoyed if the "deluxe" version actually contained a small amount of new music. I was not bothered by the National Ransom "deluxe" edition because the high price was mostly for stuff like signed prints and multiple formats, nothing that would deprive a die-hard fan of hearing any extra music.

HOWEVER: if the Spinning Songbook deluxe features a TON of additional music-- let's say ALL of the individual songs he played on tour this year-- then I'd say it's worth the huge outlay of cash...

We shall see...

Amazon UK has a different disc 3 tracklist.

1. Pump It Up (6/8)
2. Busted SIDE B

No price or release date.

Amazon Japan has an import from the US with the Brilliant Mistake/Strict Time disc 3, a November 21 release date, and a price of ¥12,146 (about $158 in US currency).

With all the back and forth on this, I wonder if we will see a pre-Christmas release date for this set. The tracklist posted by theplatypus was a bit underwhelming. Remember, the video for this release was recorded very early in the tour, prior to the playing of deeper cuts from EC's catalog. Not sure that any release will really capture the the highlights of the tour. Curious to see how this all pans out.

Elvis Costello, one of the great singers, songwriters and emcees of our time, returned to the stage this year with his celebrated Spinning Wheel tour.
This time, it was captured on film and magnetic recording tape, and now, in an extra-special Super Deluxe Edition, comes a definitive document of this tour: The Spectacular Spinning Songbook. This set is limited edition and numbered, and each is personally autographed by Elvis himself.

Featuring many of Elvis' best-known songs, plus a few surprises, this limited edition collection includes a CD, a DVD and a 10" EP, with performances exclusive to each, all from May 2011 shows at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles.

And not just those fantastic-sounding goodies: The Spectacular Spinning Songbook comes in a one-of-a-kind package that includes a book featuring excerpts from Elvis' diary of the tour, rare photographs, exclusive illustrations, detailed notes; a 20"x30" poster; a unique postcard; and an actual spinning wheel.

Get it while you can.

Even though the price has been removed from Amazon, this still appears, from the (very official-looking) description on Amazon (above), that it's going to be a very expensive purchase specifically for fans who want any sort of paraphernalia, not just performances.

I really hope they do a 'normal' DVD just of the gig, cos that's all I want - I don't care about posters, spinning wheel toys etc.

Me too, Neil. I hope it comes out in a CD-only format; I'm not especially interested in "stuff." I'd be surprised if it didn't come out in a more abridged version for more widespread consumption--I have a hard time believing that these super expensive collectors' packages would enjoy enough of an audience to make it worth the company's while otherwise.

Bargain price, too. Looks like some quality reading in the book. It would be nice to pick and choose what's in the package. I already have a poster, but wouldn't mind swapping that out for a t-shirt (long-sleeve or short)... even a coffee mug or refrig magnet would be cool, too. Too much merchandising, maybe??? Where is the interactive iPhone app that allows the fan to spin the wheel and place the selected song in a queue for listen, download, or LIVE playback the night of a live show.. Sponsored by ... I don't know... Camel cigarettes... now wait, NPR (no money there, forget about that)... ah, gee, don't know...free tickets to another local show would be cool. I'll take that... and free drinks...always up for free drinks.. Damn, I have a lot of time on my hands... gotta get back to being bored again. Toodles - MOJO.

The wheel on the album cover does not seem to be based on the wheel at any particular show. In fact, it includes one song ("Luxembourg") which never appeared on the wheel at all, although it was played at a couple of shows just before the tour began.

"Brilliant Mistake" is misspelled as "Brillaint Mistake"... or is that deliberate like "Adcicents WIll Happen" on the cover of Live At Hollywood High?

OMG I want this so badly! I want it all. The book, the poster, the vinyl, everything!

I can afford the 170 bucks without complain but I will pay a huge ammount of taxes plus the shipping and about that I can only complain. :(

I'll buy it anyway, though.

$170. That makes sense. Still hope there might be a stand alone option for just a bare bones cd/dvd set.

Elusive Disc still has at $339
