Elvis `n Steve , Osaka Oct. 4th

Post by johnfoyle »

From Costello-l listserv -

Very impressive show...but not in an usual way.
From the start, Elvis seemed to have trouble with his voice and
he didn't look very well. After three songs from North, he apologised
for his voice and confessed he's sick. The setlist must have been
changed a lot during the show depending on his condition, but Steve
perfectly accompanied Elvis, playing so flexibly. Dispite the condition
of his voice, or maybe because of that, I was completely moved by
his performance. He was desperate and in very fine spirit. With his
husky voice, songs from North sounded more painful and emotional.
I'm worrying that he won't have enough time for rest, as his tour
schedule seems quite tight. Hope he'll get well soon. I look forward to
reports from Glasgow...anyone? John?

A nice brisk walk in the crisp Glasgow air will sort him out for tonight - I hope!

JF,
You made it sound painful and beautiful at once....I hope he takes care of himself, as best as he is able under the circumstances..

I hope you're right Gil...it did the trick for me today, as I got smashed at the Ubiquitous Chip last night and didn't feel like waking up this morning to go to the lab....but the brisk Sauchiehall street air washed away my hangover!
