With my extremely limited guitar abilities I managed to work out Complicated Shadows (SP&S version) and Sulphur to Sugarcane.

For Sulphur to Sugarcane tune the guitar down a step (so a C shape sounds Bb).

These F7s are playing the C7 shape up the neck. All chords are open. When playing the chords alternate your finger on the A string to the low E.

C7 F7 C7
It's not very far from sulphur to sugarcane
F7 C7
Everywhere I travel pretty girls call my name
C7
I give em a squeeze and shoot me a wink
F7
I buy their hard-headed husbands a long cool drink
C7 Em
You'd better come up smelling sweet
Am
Cause you're a long time stinking
F G
It's a little too late to complain
F G
It's not very far from sulphur to sugarcane

And so on for the verses.

And if anyone could help out, I'd love the chords to Hidden Shame. Been itching to play that one for a while.

VERY NICE chords for that dude. Just incase your wondering the strumming pattern for that is a standard rock shuffle, two down strokes with one up, I figure this out from his video. Umm what version of Hidden Shame do you need, it'll be my first tab but I am very good for only playing for 6 months, I am basically an expert. But yes there are two versions, one on SP&S and one on the bonus disc of... *looks* ATUB.

Okay, I've got most of THE RIVER IN REVERSE worked out. Here goes:

The F# and A are power chords, everything else is open.

F#-F#-A

F#----F#----A ----F#-F#-A
How long does a promise last?
How long can a lie be told?
What would I take in exchange for my soul
--------C#7
Would I notice when it was sold?
--------F#--F#---A
Wake me up
Wake me up
Wake me up with a slap or a kiss
There must be something better than this
-----Em----------------------A7
'Cos I don't see how it can get much worse
--Dm-(maybe)--C7
What do we have to do to send
-------------F#
The river in reverse

It pretty funny you post that up because I've never heard it before and I am possibly one of the biggest EC fans ever. (I own a signed EC guitar EVERY SINGLE EC song ever.)
But yeah I posted a new guitar thread I need as much help as possible.
By the way I am trying to work out a lot of songs right now so Hidden Shame is coming along.

when i was cruel wrote:Thank once again Neil, unfortunately there aren't any Black Sails In The Sunset chords to be found, I am especially keen on learning that one because I think the version on Costello & Nieve back in 98 was absolutely beautiful. Thanks for that also, unfortunately again and not to be the bearer of sadness but all kids want to listen to now a days is this shitty thrashing stuff, and pop with no meaning.
Oh, I worked out "Black Sails in the Sunset" once.

I'd have to sit down and work it out again, but it starts like this

G..................................................Cm.........D
..Vain boys are gonna have to swallow their pride this time
G....................................Cm.......D
..So let the punishment fit the crime
--Paul--
Now put on your ironic dancing shoes
And dig my brand new rhythm and hues:

Thanks a lot Paul please do keep it up, I really want to learn that song lol.
If you ever need help with a song then I can definitely help, I am generally pretty lazy when it comes to tab writing because there is so much room for error, so I usually get others to it and I correct when I see fit.

If anyone wants to run with these and work out the rest of the songs, here are some bits I've worked out:

GO AWAY
Verses are D then G.

AMERICAN GANGSTER TIME
---------A--------------G---E
Somewhere downtown a pretty girl kneels
---------A--------------G---E
Offers her soft lips and a handful of pills
-----------A--------------G--------E
Peels off her dress and then the rest of her skills
--------------E-----------A---------E
It buys what she wants and the rest she just steals

Just worked this one out.

NATIONAL RANSOM

A................................G.............D
Running pell-mell and harum-scarum
Running as hot as they do or dare
Stick out your tongue
And drink down all the venom
From Cut-Throat Cuthbert
And Millicent St. Cyr

D
From the real old Macau
...........G
To the new False Americas
..........D
In the liberated territories
....C......................G.........C........G........C......G........C...................D
Unusual suspects shake down, shake down, shake down various dubious characters

A...............................................G..............D
Mother’s in the kitchen picking bones for breakfast
Boiling them down by the bushel and the score
Pull out your thumb and count what’s left of your fist
There’s a wolf at the window with ravening maw

D
Did you find how to lie?
G
Did you find out just how to cheat?
D
The elite bleat, their obsolete
C
But are your prospects?
G...C......G.....C...G..C
Exact, perfect object
...............D
Now, if you’d only genuflect

D......................C
They’re running wild
........C/B.........Am
Just like some childish tantrum
F...............................................G
Meanwhile we’re working every day
Paying off the National Ransom

Back to AGD

and repeat for the rest of the song.

I've got I LOST YOU worked it. I'll post that when I'm at home with the guitar. It's a fun one to play.

I got stuck on JIMMIE and JOSEPHINE. The former starts with a D minor and the latter with an E major.

Let's just say I have no need to take you up on that offer. I'm afraid I'd be little help on either of those tunes. I might give them a shot once they've grown on me a bit, but so far I'm more concerned about trying to figure out the pre-chorus of FIVE SMALL WORDS.

I am really good at figuring out riffs my chords are pretty good depending on how weird they are, I am trying to find out the stuff for Church Underground, I believe it has quite a few Gms Cms and a lot more minors and such. I've been watching videos
