Just ordered my ticket, row B still available, probably get canceled for fear of sparking an uprising of Tynesiders upset at him promoting life on the West Bank with the Wearsiders !!!

As a Gooner, I'd still resist poking fun at Gazza because he was such a wonderful, passionate player ( though the goal he scored against us in the Cup semi Final at Wembley was hard to take -even if it was breathtaking !)

Wonderful evening. Been a long, hot and sticky day so knacked and off to bed. Sorry I don't have a complete setlist to hand (first set v similar to Liverpool's) but solo 'Oliver's Army' an unexpected joy. Thanks, you guys, a fantastic night.

Review from the local Shields Gazette:

"by Terry Kelly
THE other Elvis launched last night's brilliant musical cocktail with a Sun Records classic by The King.

Looking dapper in grey suit and tie, with a white hat perched on his head, Costello shouted "How are you?" to his Tyneside fans before tearing into Mystery Train.

The former Declan Patrick MacManus, who was clearly up for it, took the audience on a brilliant journey through the vast and highly varied Costello canon.

Backed by his peerless six-piece country band The Sugarcanes, Costello covered the waterfront, from Beatles to blues, cabaret to country, music hall to Motown.

Breathing new life into old favourites like Everyday I Write the Book, (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes and Oliver's Army, Costello sweated like James Brown and performed with grace and 100 per cent passion.

New songs Jimmie Standing In The Rain and Slow Drag With Josephine revealed his muse is alive and kicking during a two-hour show studded with musical highlights too various to mention.

Costello left the stage after an inspired version of the Stones' Happy, and the screaming, clapping audience were more than that.

Gig of the year? No contest."

The gig was fantastic!

I'm now going to be a member of the Jim Lauderdale fan club.

EC's hat makes me laugh each time I see it.

He came out afterwards with no one in tow....not even a member of security. Just a guy leaving.

He signed loads of stuff..and didn't have a pen...so I gave him mine. He tried to give it back, but I told him to keep it in case others wanted signatures. He smiled and thanked me for the pen prior to jumping in a waiting taxi.

He looks fit!!! I don't know if that boy is workin out....or if it's parenting two three year olds....but he looks great.

And he sounded great.

Loved it.

Enjoyed seeing David after the gig......

Oh, I've been gone a while......but I'm back!

If you're wondering about a Lauderdale record to start off with, I'd say go for Headed for the Hills, which features songs he co-wrote with Robert Hunter. It's one of his best, and not as hard-core country as some of his other albums, so a good one to begin with.

 What?!? Were you really hanging out with those guys? How do you know them? Jim Lauderdale seems to know your name anyway...

By the way, I love the striped jacket--it's very confrontational. Like an ironic & hilarious take on those Gatsby-era jackets upper class men would wear when watching lawn sports--badminton, croquet, etc.
So I keep this fancy to myself

If I had to guess, a reference to your flag or perhaps your old 'school', in lieu of the rep tie. I prefer to think of it as your homage to Carnaby Street and the 'swinging' fashion days of yesteryear as you stroll around London[ very reminiscent for me of an early Kinks album cover, in fact Ray would definitely be wearing just such a jacket].

Either way a definite natty, sartorial statement! The ghost of Beau Brummel in Regency England would be proud.

It was definitely nothing to do with my school - there's no way I'd have gotten away with anything that mod at EBHS! The whole wardrobe, save the socks, was picked up in Carnaby St the week before, my first destination upon touching down at Heathrow and checking into my hotel.

I would hope Jim knows my name, seeing as we've been friends for eight years or so. I only met Jerry the day after the Liverpool gig but he's a really lovely guy.
