Who has the rights to Costello's Lyrics?

Post by oldhamer »

Hello all,

My mum works for an organisation called the "Admiral Nurses" who give support to those who care for family members with dementia. She was hoping to use some of the lyrics from "Veronica" as part of some promotional stuff. Who would she have to contact to get permission for the lyrics? Is it EC himself or EC's "people"? The record company? I'm guessing that'd be Rhino wouldn't it - do they have the rights to that part of EC's back catalogue now?

Any help you could give me at all would be appreciated.

Thanks.

"Veronica" was co-written by Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney, so you've got two composers to deal with.

The rights to Costello's songs from the Spike album (and indeed all his songs throughout his career) are handled by Plangent Visions, the last time I checked:

Plangent Visions Music
27 Noel Street, London, W1F 8GZ
ENGLAND
ph: 020 7734 6892

Paul McCartney's songs are handled by MPL Communications, which is a company owned by McCartney himself.

In the USA:

MPL Music Publishing, Inc.
41 West 54th Street
New York, NY 10019
ph: 212-246-5881

In the UK:

MPL Communications Ltd,
1 Soho Square,
London W1D3BQ
ENGLAND

MPL also have a website, and you may submit a licensing request through the website:

Good luck with this request, hopefully they will recognise a good cause when they see one.

My late mum's name was "Vera", this song means a great deal to me.
