Elvis is King . . . of collaborations!

Postby migdd » Tue Dec 30, 2008 3:58 pm

According to Rolling Stone:

http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/i ... -the-love/

excerpt:

Elvis Costello
Collaborations: Jenny Lewis; Lucinda Williams; Fall Out Boy; Charlie Haden. Costello also has his own Sundance TV series, “Spectacle,” on which he jams with Lou Reed, the Police, Elton John, Smokey Robinson — even Bill Clinton.
Signature Sound: A pinched, urgent croon — punk, mellowed by age
Hottest Track: “Jailhouse Tears.” Lucinda Williams hurls below-the-belt insults (”You’re a drunk and a stoner”) at her no-good lover over dusty guitar licks.
This Is Why He’s Hot: He’s the consummate pro. “He rolled into the studio and hit the notes right away,” recalls Jenny Lewis. ” ‘Carpetbaggers’ was written as a country duet — meant to be sung in a low, Johnny Cash delivery — but Elvis said, ‘No, I want to do it like this,’ and he changed the intention of the song, made it less country and more urgent-sounding, which I think it needed.”

okay, FOR ONCE AND FOR ALL, let's make this thread live up to its title....

very simply, keep cutting and pasting, as you add to the list and be aware if someone happened to enter at the same time and please modify accordingly. i will begin with the ones mentioned above by migdd and add just three of my own. let's keep it to a maximum of adding three....any collaboration counts: duet, live appearance, co-songwriting, producing...HAVE FUN! this will go on for days....

JENNY LEWIS
LUCINDA WILLIAMS
FALL OUT BOY
CHARLIE HADEN
LOU REED
THE POLICE

I don't think Elvis ever collaborated with Art Garfunkel. Someone named Del Costello appeared on a Garfunkel album, and somehow that was misreported as Declan Costello, which I guess was supposed to be a thinly veiled pseudonym for Elvis.

Elvis and Art were both on the bill for the "From the Big Apple to the Big Easy" Katrina benefit concert, so they may have crossed paths backstage.
