"I came bearing a newly recorded version of an early song of mine called “Crawling to the U.S.A.,” which I had produced on our day off in Sydney and which in itself was based on a science-fiction film about a Chinese invasion via a tunnel under the ocean." [from Unfaithful Music etc.]

Battle Beneath the Earth (1967)
Plot: A Chinese general goes berserk and has a system of tunnels dug all the way from China to USA, under the Pacific Ocean... [imdb]

My wife got me this framed print for my birthday today. I've pictured it next to my original signed single and it really is a great piece of work.

The original painting is wonder. I've not seen this original but have seen other examples of his work.

Apparently when the print arrived the glass was broken. My wife emailed them and the artist offered to deliver a replacement as it was so close to my birthday and he was in the area. So he turned up while I was away working and my wife says he was such a lovely guy and I would have enjoyed talking to him.

He mentioned that Elvis had called in last year and bought the Clash - White Man in Hammersmith Palais to hang in his New York apartment. I don't if it was the original artwork or print.

Hopefully I'll get Elvis to sign my print at some point :)

Interesting allusion by Armond White to Elvis in a review of a new Tom Hanks film A Hologram for the King -

Watching Thierry’s and Sandra’s travails brought back a pop-culture memory about “anger,” when Elvis Costello’s debut album, My Aim is True (1977), caused him to be mistakenly categorized with the political faction of Britain’s punk movement. One of Costello’s most impassioned, politically shaded songs was “I’m Not Angry.” I first misheard its cryptic opening lyrics as “Europe’s in a boardroom while I feel futile listening,” as if it were related to the Sex Pistols’ anarchic wanting to “go over the Berlin Wall.” But, in fact, Costello was singing his refusal to admit anger or confess class and bedroom defeat.

What music has had an effect on your life?

Elvis Costello. My motto — "Be good, be kind, be happy" — comes from his 1980 album, Get Happy!!

Nice , but surely more of a reference to the Barney Bubbles poster with the album -

'verbal aerobics' ?

' ‘Elvis Costello is a hero of mine’, he declares. There’s something of Costello’s verbal aerobics in Murky Water, Dorigo’s recent record produced by Cameron Blackwood . '

I spent many a sleepless night gazing at this poster on my bedroom wall trying to work out what 'Get dn' meant. I still have no idea. Can anyone shed any light on this mystery for me?

(extract)

This spring, Molly Ringwald recorded her second LP, a live album, at a New York City club gig. There’s no confirmed release date for the album yet, but she hopes to roll it out in the fall.

Ringwald said her upcoming album combines more old-school classics with newer compositions, including one by Elvis Costello and “Vibrate,” a particularly lush number from Rufus Wainwright’s “Want One” (2003) album that Ringwald described as “a very modern love song.”

Various retro sites here in Ireland are posting archive items to mark the thirtieth anniversary of Self Aid , a day of music in Dublin in May 1986. Elvis was near the top of the bill. The same day he supposedly stopped in St Stephens Green park to exchange rings with Cait , the closest the couple ever came to formalising their relationship.

Who is going ?

Well myself and Wifey actually. Shame the Brodskys are not performing as they were down here only a few weeks ago as part of their collaboration with Katie Noonan.

Don't think a set list will be required !!
