"Red Cotton" included a nod to a famous Liverpool landmark: "...Merchants will gather at St. George's Hall..." Anyone curious about this edifice will be able to see it in a starring role, impersonating a NYC building in the movie Fantastic Beasts : http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/whats-on ... 8f89303438

Which brings us to Rebuilder. The hard-working Boston punk band have released a two-song digital EP as a “pay-what-you-want” download, with proceeds earmarked for the benefit of MALDEF, the Mexican-American Defense & Education Fund. Here’s what the band have to say about it:

Right after we recorded “Rock & Roll In America”, we recorded these 2 tracks at Mystic Valley Recording Studios in Medford with Alex-Garcia Rivera (American Nightmare, Piebald). It’s all analog studio straight to tape. While the songs have been released on various online comps, we never made it public ourselves. “Singing For Our Future” seems more relevant then ever and we wanted to release it in order to give the proceeds to MALDEF (Mexican-American Legal Defense & Education Fund). I (Sal) am a first generation Latin-American from two immigrant parents who came to Boston, MA for education and a better way of life. The fact that an idea as simple as this could be threatened in 2016 is ridiculous. We as a band want everyone to feel welcomed and a part of a better future. MALDEF provides immigration help for those in need. Please donate what you can.

Check out the new EP, which features a cover of the Elvis Costello classic “Radio, Radio,” right here, and throw the band and MALDEF a few of your hard-earned dollars!

Derek Philpott

Dear Mr Philpott

I don’t think I can speak on the songwriter’s behalf. I don’t think he would want me to either. However, I draw your attention to the song I Want You (on the Blood and Chocolate long-playing disc) — which turns out to be a somewhat psychotic ditty of vaguely murderous intent. Accordingly, I would suggest that you leave Mr Costello to his protestations, rather than encourage him with this kind of more ‘positive’ assertion.
I do feel he could’ve saved himself, you, and me considerable time and effort if he’d simply taken a leaf out of Ms Toni Braxton’s (song)book and got it all over with in a single song, as did she in the popular tune ''I Don't Want To'':-

Things Ms. Braxton states that 'I Don't Want/Feel Like':

Talking on the phone
Company at home
To do the things she used to do
To sing another love song babe
To hum another melody
To live life without a babe
Smiling anymore
To love
To live
To laugh
To play
To talk

I don’t know why, Mr Philpott, you spent three days you will never get back compiling such a list in the first place. I don’t want anything else to do with your half-witted project, in fact…. I don’t want to hear from you again.
With cordial best regards, as ever

Two photographers that have been inducted in to the Album Cover Hall of Fame have had work involving Elvis highlighted. Roberta Bayley's list includes Rock And Roll Music ( a 2007 compilation using her photo from 1978) and Brian Griffin's includes his photo for Spike.

In 2007 I e-mailed Roberta Bayley , complimenting here on the R'n R photo and drawing her attention to the discussion of it here .

She replied -

John,

The photo in question was taken by me in 1978 at CBGBs where Elvis joined Richard Hell and the Voidoids onstage for a few songs, including "Shattered" by the Rolling Stones. The gig was a benefit for the St. Marks Church Poetry Project. Back then EC and I were good friends and we spent a lot of time together. The photos I took that night were used for CBS publicity shots for Armed Forces.

Recently Elvis got in touch with me through his wife's lawyer about using this photo for the cover of R & R music. They asked if I would mind if it was retouched to shadow out the Voidoids and crop out Richard Hell. I didn't mind and I got in touch with guitarist Ivan Julian who was bemused but also OK with it. Unfortunately Bob Quine has died and no one knew where Jerry the bass player was.

Yes, they added in the shoes, they borrowed them from somebody and shot them seperately. Elvis was indeed wearing pointy shoes that night but they were not red! Nick Lowe has been caught wearing red shoes but to my knowledge Elvis has not.

You can post this info on the forum, and you can give my website

http://www.robertabayley.com/

if you would, where there are lots of pics of EC from the "olden days". Yes, I do sell prints. You can contact Guy White who reps me in England.

Both Elvis and Diana Krall have purchased prints from me.

Best,

Roberta Bayley

One of the few times that the CD longbox format was used effectively. This is going for c.$200 on ebay. The design credit on the vinyl edition is ' Elvis Costello/Jeri Heiden' so I presume they also had something to do with this format.
