“In the Nick Wilson stories Eddie Gorodetsky has created the superhero that we probably think lurks within each of us; flawed beneath a thin disguise of skin and wrestling with a legend that was pressed upon us all.” —Elvis Costello

Dave Edmunds' version of Girls Talk is on the soundtrack of the Amazon series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"

(I only know this because on a YouTube video of Girls Talk from the Beacon Theatre in 2011 a commenter wrote "Mrs Maisel brought me here")

Elvis talks about the Beatles and Lennon's Double Fantasy, from about 3 hours and 25 minutes onwards.

TYM chosen the #3 best album of 1978 by Paste Magazine:

https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/ ... ign=180308

Elvis Costello had already made a splash with his sprawling 1977 debut, My Aim Is True, but the addition of his own band made an immediate impact, as the rhythm section of Bruce Thomas and Pete Thomas launched right into “No Action,” colored with organ from Steve Nieve, who’d added so much to “Watching the Detectives.” Songs like “Pump It Up” and “Radio, Radio” are as energetic as anything in his catalog—gleeful and literary updates of punk, ska, parlor music, and garage rock. It’s a rock ’n’ roll record that would make Buddy Holly happy to have Costello wearing those glasses. —Josh Jackson

Elvis was big fan of the band Brinsley Schwarz. He was at a lot of their shows in the early 1970s and would go on to work with lead singer Nick Lowe. This curio from 1973 has appeared , giving an idea of the band's life on the road, something Elvis would see up close. Uncredited are appearances by Bees Make Honey, another 'pub rock' band, and Frankie Miller , a singer who the Brinsleys had backed on his then new album , Once In A Blue Moon (January 1973) .

Watching episode 7 of the second season last evening of the Amazon series "Sneaky Pete" when the newly emerged aunt character played by Jane Adams tells her niece that the favorite songwriter of her dead mother was Elvis Costello-out of the blue..........
"....there's a merry song that starts in 'I' and ends in 'You', as many famous pop songs do....'

I am reading a spy novel by the author Mick Herron called Dead Horses. He uses the lines 'sleep of the just' and 'London's brilliant parade' in one chapter. not sure if he is a fan.

Too much of a coincidence if he isn’t!

Sleep of the just I sort of ignored as it is something you may use but London's brilliant parade really made me prick up my ears (audiobook) and think maybe I had missed a few other lines.

He mentions Sgt Rock later too

Anton Corbijn's photo of Elvis , taken in a hotel room in Amsterdam in September 1977 , has been used extensively, including the cover of Elvis's book. Flicking through a copy of the ECIS fanzine from 1988 I happened on this additional photo from the same session , used as a page filler. I can't find it anywhere else. It's interesting in that it emphasises the superiority of the more famous image.

The photos were taken for a Dutch magazine , appearing in October 1977. Other photos from the same session weren't great either.

Tangential EC ( if that isn't a thing it is now)

Elvis once said that one reason he embraced a 'soul' sound for Get Happy!! was because the Attraction's 'pop' sound was becoming a cliche, even getting cloned by acts like The Jags, particularly with their single Back Of My Hand.

Irish band The Fanzines , ' Purveyors of the Finest New and Ska hits' have 'combined both genres, taking a New Wave Classic by The Jags and spreading it with a smooth coating of Ska to make it extra tasty. '
